A 100-year-old family recipe that was written on a piece of paper and left laying in a drawer, has launched a chili seasoning product that is being sold throughout the South. The chili recipe stayed in the Ballow's cabinet drawer for years. They just took it for granted that everyone had a good chili recipe. But something wonderful happened when the Ballows opened up a little country café and started serving the chili to their customers. Bruce and wife Vaunda, opened "Ballow's Café in 1984. In 1992 they served their first sampling of chili using the closely guarded chili recipe. It was such a big hit that their daughter Lisa Moring of Mississippi, contacted a blender to have the seasoning blended and labeled. That is when "Ballow's Famous Texas Chili Seasoning" became available to consumers. The Ballow family seasoning mix includes 14 herbs and spices including chili powder, paprika, garlic, onion and cumin. It is purchased in a box with two separate packets of ingredients. The Ballow's have sold their cafe to give more time to distributing the chili which is now a full time job.

Chili season is almost here and the most common question is .......... "beans or no beans"?
At Ballow 's Chili Co. we believe it's a personal preference. With our chili seasoning as your base you can get the same slow simmered flavor you love in one third the time.

Start with our seasoning mix, we suggest you make it like the box recommends then go for it. Add whatever you like, beans,tomatoes, onions ​or pico de gallo. Next time try replacing some of the water with b**r or beef broth and your favorite blend of ground meats. Be it chicken, turkey, venison, bison, pork or whatever your heart desires. It can even be made vegan. You can't go wrong with our seasoning ​as your base.
