100 Years Above the River, 150 Years on It!

Today Astoria is toasting a true icon — the Astor Column just turned 100. Since its dedication in 1926, it’s stood watch over Coxcomb Hill and the mouth of the Columbia, welcoming generations of visitors and telling the story of this region one hand-painted mural at a time.

It’s got us thinking about our own corner of Astoria’s history. Just last year, we celebrated 150 years of the Hanthorn Cannery building — the same historic walls we’re proud to pour pints in today, right where the salmon canning industry once shaped this waterfront and this town.

One landmark rises high above the river. The other has sat right on its edge for a century and a half. Different views, same spirit — the grit, craft, and community that make Astoria what it is.

So stop in and raise a glass with us. Here’s to the Column’s first hundred years, our building’s hundred-and-fifty, and everything Astoria has ahead of it.
