Sam and I opened the door and quietly began serving our first gelato's 10 years ago today (June 4th, 2016), no ribbon cuttings, social media, or other announcements...though I've struggled with whether to consider the date or the day of the week as the real birthday: the day was Friday, right after Memorial Day. We couldn't get the final inspector to come in before memorial day, and while we were disappointed by that at the time, we came to appreciate that we'd had one last quiet family weekend before Dulce took over our lives. We passed all of our inspections Tuesday and began making gelato as fast as we could. We didn't wait till all 22 flavors were ready before opening. Happily, several of you had been walking by daily waiting for the door to open and spread the word quickly.
I've brought back one pan of Sam's favorite flavor, made just for the occasion. We have pints in the freezer for when that runs out. I don't make it often, because most people don't know what it is, and it doesn't keep well in the case. It is the basis for tiramisu, which you will find in the case as well.
Oh, and the picture of us is my favorite from our Honeymoon in Prague, which is where we were exactly 3 years to the day before opening Dulce. Sadly, the lighting wasn't great and we were far away from the camera, so it's a bit grainy.
