Some people leave behind songs. Some leave behind stories. And every once in a while, someone leaves the world genuinely better than they found it. 💛✨
Dolly Parton was so much more than an icon of country music.
She was a songwriter whose words crossed genres, generations and borders. A woman who could write something as haunting as Jolene, as tender as I Will Always Love You, and as joyful and defiant as 9 to 5 — and somehow make each one feel like it belonged to all of us. 🎶
But what makes her legacy even more extraordinary is everything she chose to do with the life and success she built.
She championed children and literacy through her beloved Imagination Library, putting books into the hands of millions of little ones and helping create homes where reading, dreaming and imagination could begin before a child ever stepped inside a classroom. 📚🦋
She quietly and generously supported education, families in need, disaster relief, healthcare, medical research and countless humanitarian causes. Again and again, Dolly used her platform not simply to be admired — but to help.
And she did it all while remaining unmistakably herself.
There will never be another Dolly.
What a remarkable thing to have given the world music that will continue playing long after you’re gone — and an even more remarkable thing to have spent your life making sure children had books to read, families had help when they needed it, and people felt a little more loved.
Thank you for the music.
Thank you for the stories.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for the books.
Thank you for all the good you put into this world. 💛
I have a feeling generations of children will still be opening little books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library while generations of grown-ups are still dropping the needle on Jolene.
That is one beautiful legacy.
Rest peacefully, Dolly. 🕊️✨📚🎶
“I will always love you.” ❤️
