Sanctuary dog spotlight!

Grimm is one of our sanctuary dogs that is rarely shown or talked about. He is Goose's twin brother. Grimm is the definition of all bark and no bite. He was known for s**t talking and riling up Goose and other dogs to the point of a fight, then running away at the first sign of actual danger, leaving Goose to fight it out alone. (Goose is typically the opposite. He won't necessarily start a fight out of nowhere but he will damn sure finish it!)

Together they made a dangerous team, but separately they would spiral into individual aggression and depression. That is until one fateful day that a piece of food was dropped between them. An epic battle ensued, and they have had to remain separated ever since. They are poster children for sibling attachment disorder.

Luckily, they have been gradually improving in the months they've been apart, and they have muzzles for when needed. Goose still has anxiety, hence the recent situation where he injured himself, but Grimm is adjusting surprisingly well. He is typically healthy and doesn't have any special needs, which means he sometimes gets lost in the excitement of other things.

Grimm is a good boy, but like Goose, he is unpredictable and has a history of initiating fights at seemingly random. Due to this we do not feel comfortable with adopting him out, making him another permanent resident of our sanctuary.

Update on Miss Ruby Rae (formerly Gloria) 🐾

Girly is now about 6-7 months old and has started her first heat right on time! She already has a spay appointment scheduled (the vet wanted to wait until her first heat since she had such a rough start) and will "officially" be adopted! 🎉

At her most recent appointment she weighed a whopping 40 lbs! 😮 A huge difference from the 11 lbs when we got her.

Aaaand she took a DNA test found out she's 100% American Pit Bull Terrier. This is the first result I've seen that's 100% anything, and likely means she was bred for a purpose 😔

She's growing up into a beautiful, loved, HEALTHY, girl and we couldn't be happier!

I feel so bad for Courage 😔 his ear is healing slowly but surely. He's just so sick of the cone. He's torn it nearly to shreds, and since he's destroyed 2 donuts already we can't use them. He's really struggling with not being able to move and play like usual and I think he's getting depressed 🫥 to make matters worse it affects his stability and balance, so he's fallen and run into things a few times. Now he has a scrape on his chin and has scratched up his previously injured leg. I wish I could just wrap him up in a bubble so he was safe! 😭

He still has at least 1 follow up visit scheduled to check how it's healing and make sure it's still on the right track. Hopefully we can take the cone off soon.

I will be creating and adding infographics to our sanctuary dog albums so you can learn a little about each of our permanent residents and why they are here.

Meet Goose 🪿:
A 3 year old Great Dane mix that has been with us since before we were a rescue, when we started out fostering for another rescue that has since closed its doors. He was found with his brother at 3 months old and, unbeknownst to us, they developed littermate syndrome.

Due to his unpredictable and apparently at random dog aggressive behavior, he is unadoptable.

Goose is known to have high anxiety and will harm himself if he becomes too stressed. He requires consistency and routine to stay calm. He is currently on medication to try to manage his anxiety.

Courage did good at the vet so he got a pup cup. Safe to say he loves it ☺️ his ear has opened more but is still healing well so we're going to give it another 10 days and see where it's at then.

He's also starting on Apoquel for allergies 🤧 He's been rubbing his sides and bum on his kennel and the fence and has lost quite a bit of hair there. It's not inflamed or anything, but we don't want him to end up nekkid!

Courage's daily medications now include:
💊 Keppra for seizures
💊 Phenobarbital for seizures
💊 Apoquel for allergies
💊 Trazodone for anxiety
💊 Hemp/mct oil supplement for seizures and anxiety

He is also currently taking 2 antibiotics and has a medicated spray for his ear.

Courage's basic prescriptions alone add up to about $250/month. He also is on a special high protein low carb diet that runs $85/bag. We are looking into finding online sellers that would have a lower price, but the cost is significant either way.

We would love to find some sponsors for Courage to help with his day to day costs of living! If you have been considering donating but are looking for the right cause, please consider making a monthly contribution to Courage's care 🙏🏻🩵 every dollar helps and we couldn't do it without your support!
