Back to puppy introductions! Introducing..

Little Michael! 🕺🏼

Little Michael got his name because he always only has 1 glove! He is a very quiet and shy boy. He is usually at the back of the pack when it comes to new things, but will come around with a little time. He loves being held and carried.

Little Michael is a perfect combination of calm and playful. He is not a hard wrestler but prefers gentle play.

Some of Little Michael's favorite things are:
🤗 Being held
🧸 Flatties with squeakers
🍡 Bully and chomping sticks

He gets along with his siblings and tries to play with other dogs through their kennels. He is still unsure about the cats.

Courage update!

With Sweet Pea's disaster, I don't remember if I ever gave a final update on Courage!

It was grass. Dummy ate so much grass it almost caused a blockage. 🤦🏼‍♀️ He had grass coming out both ends for the next day and a half. I'm half expecting grass to sprout out of his ears.

So we managed to unlock not one but TWO new fears so far this week 😬 Grass and gates were not on my rescue bingo card.

We still owe about $100 on his most recent vet visit, and $500 on Sweet Pea's. We desperately need to offset these costs as we have puppy vetting that needs done coming up!

Sweet Pea 🫛 Update! And good news!! 🎉

Sweet Pea is recovering well! She does experience a bit of separation anxiety if we leave the room for too long, but that could also be because of the storms today.

I'm glad we went with the pajamas, bc she would definitely be able to scratch her stitches with her back leg so a cone would not have helped.

I haven't taken pictures of her injury because every time I look at it I relive the moment it happened and I'm not prepared for that yet.

🚨UNRELATED GOOD NEWS!🚨

While she was under, they went ahead and did a heartworm test. SHE IS HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!!! 🎉🎉🎉This is so exciting! We 100% fully expected her to be hw positive after spending her life up to this point outside.

We had already been giving her preventatives, but hadn't tested her yet bc she wouldn't have been able to start treatment until she weaned if she was positive, so we were just going to do it with the rest of her vaccines and spay.

This means that as soon as we get her spayed and her secondary vaccines (she's had rabies) she'll be ready for a forever home!! 🏡

Good morning friends! 🫛 Sweet Pea here!

​I am feeling pretty good today, even though life got super weird all of a sudden.

​First, I got upgraded to this whole new indoor room! It has my softest blankets, all my snacks, and mom set me up in a super fancy suite right next to her bed. 10/10 room service, honestly cannot complain. 🛏️✨

​The weirdest part? She dressed me in this stretchy, colorful wrap and called it "jammies" so I don't poke at my belly zipper. Do you think I could pass as a real hooman now? Or at least a very stylish couch potato? 🐾

​Anyway, I have very serious recovery business to attend to—like thoroughly investigating the new chew bone and squeaky toy mom delivered this morning.

Sweet Pea 🫛 is home and resting. She is in good spirits, but confused as to why all this is happening.

From what the vets said, she was acting and feeling fine the whole time she was there, but they could tell I was not ok. This one got to me.

I'm just thankful it happened when it did, that we have an amazing vet that didn't hesitate when I called and said we were already on the way, and for our friends that transported her home after the surgery at the last minute.

I will update with more photos tomorrow, including a copy of the invoice.

We haven't received any donations for today's visit and our outstanding balance nearly doubled in the past 2 days. We NEED donations to keep caring for these animals that have nowhere else to go.

🚨 EMERGENCY MEDICAL APPEAL: Sweet Pea needs our help 🚨

​We had a terrifying freak accident today at the sanctuary, and mama Sweet Pea had to be rushed into emergency surgery.

​Because of her post-nursing loose skin, she somehow managed to catch one of her milk bags on a gate, and in an instant, struggling to get free caused a severe tear. Mammary tissue is intensely vascular, and within seconds there was heavy, terrifying blood loss. Thank God we were right beside her to intervene immediately, apply pressure, and rush her straight to the vet.

​Sweet Pea—stoic and sweet as ever—acted like nothing even happened. I think I was far more traumatized than she was. The surgical team has closed her up, repaired the tissue, and she is officially ready to come home and begin strict crate rest.

​The gate has already been inspected and modified so this can never happen again, and we have an industrial kennel ready in our bedroom for her recovery. But this unexpected emergency surgery leaves us with an immediate $500 vet bill to cover, on top of Courage's almost $400 visit yesterday.

Well, we don't have definitive answers for Courage.

He has a ton of gas in his stomach, but at least not his intestines so that's good. We are leaning towards him having a grass ball in his stomach. The vet gave him some meds, we're putting him on a liquid diet, and if he throws up again tonight he'll have to go back in the morning for a barium study.

Today's appointment alone was $387. I paid $300 out of our mortgage money. We desperately need donations! 😭 Please help!!

🚨 URGENT NEED 🚨

We are taking Courage to the vet this afternoon. Yesterday he was eating grass 🍃 quite a bit (he likes eating grass but everything has been dead until the rains) and threw it up several times. It wasn't a constant thing or an excessive amount; it seemed to be as dogs do sometimes when they eat grass.

This morning when I went to feed him, I saw he had thrown up his dinner sometime in the night. He did it again when I let him in from his morning walk and that time it had a pink tinge.

He is otherwise acting fine. Eating and drinking is normal and he's still energetic. I'm not sure what medical mystery he's come down with now 🙄

We desperately need donations!! We only have the funds we've raised for the pups vaccinations, and I don't want to spend that if I don't have to so we can get them their shots this week. Please help us continue to provide the veterinary care needed for Courage and all our babies! 🙏🏼🩵🐶
