The morning after a successful fundraiser…
There comes a moment in every event co-organizer’s life when you stop cleaning for a second… look around… and wonder if maybe you’ve become the strange one.
There I was… in slippers… wearing my squirrel hoodie… clutching a pink flamingo bird b**g in one hand while collecting martini glasses with the other… trying to remember why there were playing cards in places that playing cards should never be.
And then it hit me…
If someone from down the road walked through that front door right now, they’d probably slowly back out without making eye contact.
To me? This is just Sunday morning.
The funniest part is that none of it even seemed weird until I imagined trying to explain it.
“No, no… I swear this all makes perfect sense. Yesterday we hosted a charity kayak poker run. The flamingo isn’t what it looks like. The squirrel hoodie is completely unrelated. Please don’t judge us by the current state of the bar…”
Then again… maybe this is exactly why our events work.
This year’s fundraiser came with more hoops to jump through than ever before thanks to new state requirements. There were moments where it felt like the paperwork alone might sink the kayaks before they ever hit the water.
But somehow… we pulled it off.
And that’s because of every single volunteer who gave up their time, every participant who came out to support us, and every wonderfully odd, hardworking, slightly untraditional human being who said, “Yep… we’re doing this.”
Normal people probably wouldn’t have made it happen.
Fortunately for us… we’re not normal.
We’re the kind of people who work until we’re exhausted, laugh until our sides hurt, solve problems with duct tape and determination, and somehow manage to organize controlled chaos into an event that keeps getting better every year.
So from the bottom of my heart…
THANK YOU to every volunteer who worked behind the scenes and every participant who came out yesterday. You made this event another huge success, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
Here’s to our wonderfully dysfunctional little family of die-hard, fun-loving, abnormal party people. Our new bartender who absolutely KILLED it on her second shift here!!!! 🙌🏻 All fired up band who got toasted on our last minute trailer stage assembly with out shade ☀️ ALL FIRED UP 🥵. Fictitious farm who sold out of a lot of food but had shade and rain coverage this year 😜 ALL of our sponsors that helped offset our $2,350 in permits ALONE this year, Pat Vedder who lent us the stage, and Richard Hart who sourced that dock everyone is absolutely raving about at the launch. 💗 The volunteer crew worked like a well oiled machine. CHEERS!!!! 🍻
