🎉 10 Years of Buoy Bowls! 🎉

There are literally hundreds of pictures we’d love to share from the last 10 years, but Instagram only allows us 10. So here is a snapshot from a decade that is filled with WAY too many memories to fit into one post.

10 years ago, Buoy Bowls started Derek Sharpe on a little with a huge passion for açaí, and a whole lot of figuring it out along the way.

We were the FIRST açaí bowl food truck in North Carolina, and over the last decade, we’ve had the incredible honor of being Voted Best Food Truck in the Triangle 11 times by Y’ALL! Those are accomplishments we never take for granted, because behind every award and every milestone are thousands of customers who chose to support our .

Since 2016, we’ve opened 5 trucks, opened two permanent locations, closed two of those locations, tried new things, learned some really hard lessons, celebrated some incredible wins, and most importantly, met thousands of amazing people along the way.

We’ve made mistakes. Plenty of them.

But every mistake taught us something. Every challenge made us better. Every new truck/location, every new team member, new customer and new opportunity helped shaped Buoy Bowls into what it is today.

And that’s what makes this 10-year anniversary so special.

It’s not really about the trucks. It’s not even about the bowls. It’s about the PEOPLE.

The team members who have spent their summers, high school years, college years and beyond with us.
The families who have made Buoy Bowls part of their routines. The customers who have been stopping by since the very beginning. The parents who trusted us with their kids. The friends and family members who supported this crazy idea from day one. The other local businesses who shared advice, opened doors and helped us along the way.

And the countless people who have simply grabbed a bowl, tagged us in a photo, shared a post, brought a friend or told someone, “You’ve gotta try Buoy Bowls!”

Relationships matter. 🤝

Tonight we had the opportunity to feed 300+ student-athletes from , and moments like this remind me why building genuine relationships as a local business owner is everything.

This one started years ago with Raymond being a SUPER LOYAL customer to the — just another fan of our hand-blended açaí bowls. What began as a customer relationship has grown into a 6+ year partnership with NC State & Buoy Bowls fueling some of the hardest-working student-athletes in the Triangle.

That’s the power of showing up, serving people well, and staying consistent. You never know where one relationship can lead.
