Metzger’s is closed Monday May 25th for Memorial Day. Memorial Day is the day we pay homage to all those who didn't come home. It is a day to pause and reflect upon service members who lost their lives fighting for freedom. While our dad, Walter, who served in the US Navy during WWII and his brother, Hans, who served in the US Army, made it home from the war, we honor them, and all those lost.

Metzger’s is open this weekend, however we will be closed on Monday May 25 in observance of Memorial Day, so don’t forget to stock your picnic baskets with our delicious German potato salad, cucumber salad, and other sides for your celebrations. Our sausages are also available to-go and great on the grill.

May 16th, 2026 would have been our dad’s 100th Birthday, so we are celebrating and honoring Walter Metzger today. Walter was a humble man, dedicated to his faith, his family, and his restaurant. Walter was the son of Wilhelm and Marie Metzger, who founded Metzger’s in 1928 when Walter was just two years old. Walter was always a part of the restaurant. He was a WWII Navy veteran and proud American and loved meeting and greeting guests at Metzger’s. He passed away too soon in 2014 at the age of 88. Walter loved his beer in a glass with half-foam and not too cold, he loved his Courvoisier, he also loved Sauerbraten, and cucumbers. But even more, he loved his wife, Ruth, and his family. Today we raise a glass of half-foam beer to our dad, Walter! Prost!!!

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Metzger’s. Metzger’s has always been a place for celebrating family and enjoying comforting and delicious food. Besides our regular Sunday menu, Chef Ryan’s Mother’s Day specials include Pan-fried Skate with roasted red pepper caper butter sauce or Crab Cakes with lemon basil aioli.

Ann Arbor took quite a hit with the storm last night. Hoping everyone is safe. Metzger’s has power. If you are without power stop in! Comfort food is often good medicine for the soul.

A “German-Irish Toast: “May your Corned Beef be tender, your Schnitzel be crisp, and your glass never be empty! May the Irish luck find you, but may German efficiency get you to Metzger’s first! Happy Valentines Weekend! We are celebrating this weekend at Metzger’s. Come in and enjoy our traditional weekend specials plus a few added ones for the special occasion, including Crab-stuffed Sole.
