Tonight! Wine Down Thursday: Island Beauties
Thursday, July 30 | 6–7:30 PM
Sampler: $25/person

Island wines are made for summer. Shaped by sea breezes, volcanic soils, and generations of winemaking, they offer vibrant acidity, striking minerality, and a true sense of place. Many are crafted from rare indigenous grapes found nowhere else in the world.

Join us as we island-hop through the glass with three exceptional pours: a Vermentinu and Biancu Gentile blend from Corsica, a partially skin-contact Listán Blanco from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and an old-vine Nerello Mascalese from the slopes of Sicily's Mount Etna. Each wine tells a unique story of its island home.

Featured Wines:

• 2023 Yves Leccia YL Île de Beauté (Corsica) – A fresh, mineral-driven blend of Vermentinu and Biancu Gentile that beautifully captures Corsica's coastal character.

• 2024 Envínate Benje Blanco (Canary Islands) – Ancient-vine Listán Blanco with partial skin contact, showcasing volcanic energy, texture, and Atlantic freshness.

• 2016 Calabretta Nerello Mascalese Vigne Vecchie (Sicily) – An old-vine Etna red with aromas of sour cherry, dried rose, and orange peel, offering a soulful expression of volcanic terroir.

No passport required—just a sense of adventure.

Varda Wine has just landed in Michigan, and here are three bottles that deserve a spot on your table this season. All in extremely limited quantities, so don’t wait to grab yours.

2024 Damien Bastien Goddard “Ça Boit Libre Mon Blanc Orange”
This skin-contact white is everything summer drinking should be: textured, a little wild, and endlessly fun. Notes of bruised orchard fruit, honeyed herbs, and a grippy, savory finish that makes it as exciting with grilled vegetables as it is on its own on the porch. Vibrant, unpretentious, and made to be shared.

2024 Damien Bastien Goddard “Ça Boit Libre Ton Rouge du Lac”
A juicy, chillable Pinot Noir from the same hands behind Mon Blanc, this is your new go-to for warm-weather reds. Light on tannin, loaded with red berry and crushed stone, it’s built for backyard dinners, a slight chill, and second glasses.

2023 Damien Bureau Paloma Rouge
Structured but lively, this red balances dark fruit with a peppery, earthy edge — a red with enough backbone for grilled meats but enough energy to still feel like summer.

Tonight! Wine Down Thursday: Skin Contact
July 23 | 6–7:30 PM
Sampler: $20/person

It's hot outside—cool off with us at Wine Down Thursday as we pour three skin-contact wines from Spain, Italy, and Austria.

Skin-contact wine (often called "orange wine") is made by fermenting white grapes with their skins, much like red wine. The extra skin contact adds color, texture, and tannin, creating wines with more depth and personality than your typical white.

Don't let the name fool you—these aren't heavy wines. All three selections are bright, mineral-driven, and refreshingly crisp, proving skin-contact wines can be just as perfect for summer.

Featured Wines

2024 Finca Parera Xarel·lo Vermell
From Spain's Alt Penedès, this rare pink-skinned mutation of Xarel·lo showcases regenerative farming and Mediterranean terroir with remarkable texture, structure, and freshness.

2025 Perusini Pinot Grigio Ramato
A classic Friulian "Ramato" style, this Pinot Grigio sees brief skin contact, giving it a signature copper hue and added texture while highlighting the grape's historic roots.

2023 Hajszan Neumann Grüner Veltliner Natural
Produced in Vienna using biodynamic farming and minimal intervention, this skin-contact Grüner Veltliner is textured, expressive, and a standout example of Austria's growing natural wine movement.
