Fresh coffee makes a bigger difference than most people realize ☕

A lot of the flavor, balance, and clarity you taste in specialty coffee comes down to freshness — not just how the coffee was roasted, but how recently it was roasted.

Over time, coffee naturally starts to lose some of the unique flavor compounds that make it expressive in the first place. That’s why we always recommend paying attention to roast dates and buying smaller amounts of coffee more frequently, rather than letting one bag sit around for months.

At Black Diesel Coffee in Ann Arbor, we think coffee should be treated more like fresh produce than a shelf-stable pantry item. The fresher it is, the more of those nuanced flavors you actually get to experience in the cup.
