1995. Theresa, Carla, Ebet and Alissa. We called them ”The A Team.” They were our core of front of house Bussers and Hostesses all the way through High School. When I say “The A Team” I’m not joking. Theresa was the “ring leader” who brought her friends in to work and if they didn’t, she’d dismiss them in the snap of a finger and find us someone who would do the job to HER expectations without making extra work for those who knew their jobs.
When these girls graduated and went on to their respective colleges they begged Spiros and I to start hiring their replacements so Theresa and the girls could replace them. I have to admit here and now, we were in total denial they’d actually leave us. When they DID, Spiros and I sat at the bar that afternoon in stunned realization (and admittedly some tears) that ….people grow up and leave you for other pursuits.
Theresa became a paediatric surgical nurse, Carla a physical therapist, Ebet and architect and Alissa an engineer.
In the 42 years Ltitle Italy Restaurante has operated we have been privileged to watch our young employees work their way into professions we were proud to watch.
Metropolitan Opera singers turned lawyer, young college students attaining law degrees, teaching certificates earned, nurses, primaries in the IBEW, authors….the list is amazing!
Hospitality affords young people the chance to not only pay tuition and supplement incomes, it teaches responsibility, empathy, loyalty and working with different personalities they will encounter in the real world of LIFE!
I’d love to know how many former employees since 1984 this reaches and what working here meant to you….how it helped you in your professional pursuits….and where you are today.
It’s been an honor, and this year, as every year we find employees go out of state to college or finally secure the job here they wanted that gives them the income and benefits we could not provide….and I always choke back a little tear.
