Poetry Postponed!

In deference to the safety of our customers and readers, we've decided to postpone tonight's launch and reading of The Madrona Project's Empty Bowl Cookbook.

We don't have a solid replacement date yet but will keep you updated.

Please stay safe & warm!

Eli

Livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi9n2YI-nCJ5CxmqFbpQv7g/live

After two long years without live poetry at Pelican Bay Books, we a are welcoming Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest and Local legend Jean Hallinstad will be reading at Pelican Bay Books.

Because of the pandemic, the few in-person spots are filled. We will be livestreaming the event beginning at 7:00 pm and the video should remain on YouTube in perpetuity.

This our first livestream, please forgive us if it is awkward or painful.

We're open!

Assuming everyone continues to test negative for coronavirus AND have no symptoms, we will be open every day this week until Friday the 31st. (10:00am until 4:30 pm)

After which we will be closed until Groundhog Day, reworking the store, moving into the new space, and slowing down for a bit.

12/23/2021

We will be closed Until December 28.

Two fully vaccinated members of our staff tested positive for coronavirus.

We do not believe they acquired the infections at work. Nor do we believe that any of the staff had close enough contact with customers to put them at risk. We are communicating with the Skagit County Health Department and will follow their guidance.

Making this decision breaks our hearts. But out of regard for our community and the simple fact that we do not have enough staff to open, we will be closed through the Christmas holiday and hope to reopen on Tuesday the 28th.

No staff will return unless they test negative for Coronavirus immediately before their shift.

Please be careful and have a Happy Christmas!

Pelican Bay Books is Growing

As many of you have noticed, we are building out the bookstore in the back of the building. We will be closed the entirety of January — moving sections, refreshing the store, and taking a bit of time out of town. We plan to reopen on the hole-iest day of all (Groundhog Day).

The new space will allow us to spread out a bit and eventually increase our inventory by a quarter, to about 65,000 volumes. It will also give us a dedicated buying counter.

Many of you have asked when we will allow folks to eat and drink inside the shop again. The short answer is we don't know. We have been more careful than many throughout this pandemic and will continue to use the best available science to guide our policies and to prioritize our community's health and safety above everything else. We too desperately miss the old days and are eager to again host multiple generations sitting together, sharing coffee and stories.

We are not making any more appointments to purchase books this year. If you have small quantities (a box or fewer), please bring them in during our buying hours and we will give trade credit or cash for books we expect to sell. As always, we cannot accept donations and must send any books we can't use back with you.

These last couple years have not been our — or most anyone's — best, but they will not be our last. We have good reason to believe that thanks to our amazing team, a community that cares for the written word, and this extraordinarily beautiful place we get to live, our best years are ahead.

Finally, in spite of this mad season, we cannot express how grateful we are to be the stewards of this little shop.

Happy Holidays!
