Long post!
But please read!!!
As most of you know, I own Crawdaddy’s in Amory. Our new location is hwy 278 across from Wheel city. The city has a list of ordinances that all transient vendors have to abide to. One of these rules is that we are required to have consent from any brick and mortar food establishments within 500 feet of our location. We are right in the back door of Knights drive-in. The owners are 100% in favor of our presence. We support each other and we have grown up eating there our whole lives. We are licensed, insured, and permitted just like we are required to be through the city and the state.
I’m sure everyone knows about the food truck issue a couple weeks ago in North Amory. It has sparked a huge uproar among some restaurant owners, justifiably. I have absolutely nothing to do with any of that. NONE OF MY BUSINESS!!! We are 100% in compliance. Even though I have nothing to do with it, my name and business were brought up in the special meeting, by someone who doesn’t know me, in a room where I wasn’t there to defend myself.
Crawdaddy’s is a family owned business. I started this so I’d have something that we could do as a family and enjoy life . It’s something that I plan to leave to my daughter, son in law, and granddaughters so they can continue to have a business they can enjoy together. It’s a business in which this community has shown overwhelming and mind blowing support. I appreciate every single person and every hard earned cent that y’all give us. We never take any of you for granted. It’s humbling, and we consider ourselves blessed way beyond what we deserve.
When you pull up to our little spot you see only what’s going on in the moment. What people don’t see are the countless hours of work that goes on during the week before we open. Every time we open up we have invested between $6,000 to $8,000 in perishable food, labor, and overhead which we hope and pray we can cover that day. It’s a gamble and we live on a wing and a prayer.
We opened only 14 days this year because of weather and some unforeseen health issues . Usually we open up no more than 20 days per season. We are open from 11-3 on Saturdays and an occasional Friday lunch. Total hours open this year were about 56, not counting the railroad festival. I don’t see how that could possibly be a perceived threat to any established business with good following.
All that said, it has recently come to my attention that our little redneck shed on wheels is causing concern with a millionaire, non city resident. Let’s call him “ Mr. Golden Arches” for now. I want him to know what a huge compliment it is to me that my little mom and pop thrown together establishment gets his attention and makes him notice us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I get a milkshake or meal from his business at least once a week and I will continue doing just that because I’m fat and I like fast food! I won’t boycott him, bash him, or try to get the city to shut him down as I am being told that “someone” is attempting to do to us, and all other transient vendors. If we are in compliance then we are good. I am a lifelong resident of Amory and I believe in this community. I believe everyone should have the right to have a business as long as they go through the right channels. I was told that there is a request on the table to do away with all food trucks in the city. The issues from two weeks ago do not involve local vendors.
It’s hard enough to do business in Amory without having the self titled “big man” try to stomp the little guy. I was raised by a hard ass. I will not lay down a business that I’ve put blood, sweat, and tears into for 6 years just because someone complains. It feeds me, allows me to spoil my babies, and it’s brought friendships into my life that weren’t there before. It’s pitiful that we have to have to worry about this every year. We are just trying to sell crawfish and have a good time, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
If God is alive in February, then we will be wide open for Crawfish 2027! No matter what, we will be there.
If you support us, and love our food, then please share this. I want everyone to know about it. Hope to see everyone in “27”!
If anyone needs to discuss this then please feel free to call me
