The women of Las Diosas have been working hard to improve their production capacity – using intensive organic practices and expanding opportunities in local, national and international markets. But despite their best efforts, their region was hard hit with the leaf rust fungus that has spread across much of Latin America, leaving many of their members with up to 60% reductions in their harvest for the coming years. It will be a long road to recovery, as they systematically plan out and implement a wide-spread field renovation plan. In the meantime, Las Diosas is supporting members with a revolving credit fund to help them establish household vegetable gardens, and raise chickens and pigs for their local consumption and sale.

Dedicated to more than just growing coffee, La Central Cooperativa Las Diosas (The Goddesses) is a dynamic network of community based cooperatives run by women and supporting true development and respect for women’s rights. The cooperative is located east of Managua in the department of Estelí where much of the land is devoted to to***co production and largely controlled by male producers. Las Diosas consists of four smaller cooperatives, each managed by its own Directiva (female Board of Directors). Fiercely independent and determined to succeed in the coffee industry, the 250-member cooperative has made much progress since their founding in 1996, both in terms of sustainable commercial relations for their coffee sales as well as the promotion of issues such as women’s education, housing and health.

In 1977, fifty farmers in the Peruvian highlands east of the Andes came together to form a cooperative. They called it CAC Pangoa, and by the early 1980s, their membership had grown to 1,700.

Then came El Periodo del Terrorismo — a decade of violent political conflict that tore through the Peruvian countryside and forced many of those same farmers to flee for safety. Pangoa survived.

Today, the cooperative counts 700 small-scale farmers among its members, and it has channeled that hard-won resilience into something remarkable: 3% of every sale reinvested in the community.

That 3% has funded a women’s development committee, interest-free medical loans, an educational lending program for university fees, tree renovation, and member death benefits — among many other programs. It’s one of the most thoroughly community-rooted cooperatives in our network.

In the cup, you’ll find what those highlands produce best: malt, chocolate, salted caramel on the nose; chocolatey, malty, caramel flavors with low acidity and a medium-to-full body. A Full City roast that’s smooth, balanced, and built to be your everyday morning cup.

If our Guatemala Full City is already in your weekly rotation — you know exactly what we’re about to say. It’s time to stock up.

This Friday and Saturday only, we’re taking 15% off our 2lb and 5lb bags of Guatemala. That’s the same smooth, sweet, milky-bodied coffee with notes of almond, honey, and vanilla — now in the sizes that actually keep up with how fast you go through it.

Why we’re doing this:

We don’t run bulk-size sales often. Bigger bags are a real value to begin with — fewer trips to the store, less packaging, lower cost per cup. Adding 15% on top of that makes this one of the best prices on Guatemala we offer all year.

A quick note on freshness: Stored properly — in a cool, dry place, sealed tight — whole bean coffee holds its character for a solid 4–6 weeks after roasting. A 2lb bag is a few weeks of mornings for most households. A 5lb bag is a couple months, or a great deal if you’re splitting it with neighbors.

In the cup, you’ll find what those high-altitude Guatemalan farms produce best: sweet, fruity, toasted coconut and caramel on the nose, almond, honey, vanilla in the cup, with a milky medium body and a sweet, chocolatey finish. A Full City roast that’s smooth, balanced, and built to be your everyday morning cup.
