In 1977, fifty farmers in the Peruvian highlands east of the Andes came together to form a cooperative. They called it CAC Pangoa, and by the early 1980s, their membership had grown to 1,700.
Then came El Periodo del Terrorismo — a decade of violent political conflict that tore through the Peruvian countryside and forced many of those same farmers to flee for safety. Pangoa survived.
Today, the cooperative counts 700 small-scale farmers among its members, and it has channeled that hard-won resilience into something remarkable: 3% of every sale reinvested in the community.
That 3% has funded a women’s development committee, interest-free medical loans, an educational lending program for university fees, tree renovation, and member death benefits — among many other programs. It’s one of the most thoroughly community-rooted cooperatives in our network.
In the cup, you’ll find what those highlands produce best: malt, chocolate, salted caramel on the nose; chocolatey, malty, caramel flavors with low acidity and a medium-to-full body. A Full City roast that’s smooth, balanced, and built to be your everyday morning cup.
