This week has been a gut wrenching experience for me. Kinfolk Kitchen has been like a second baby to me. Blood, sweat, tears, fear, heartbreak, rewarding moments and the list goes on forever and some.
When I started this business I left a job that no longer suited what I stood for and I had outgrown it. My route was to do something I loved and knew that I was good at. I had been poked at and told multiple times by loved ones and friends, “You need your own business. Why are you sitting on talent like this when you have something to offer the world?” I took that as a challenge. If you know me, when I want something I want it THEN! Nothing will stop me or get in my way when my mind is made up.
With that being said, I have been knocked down, drug around and stored away this week. I had to disassociate myself and took a two day trip just to get away.
I had what I thought was a food truck catering scheduled for September 23rd. What I thought was a decent human being happened to be a scammer. He hacked my personal account and my business page and scammed me out of almost $5,800 of my hard earned money. He paid me with stolen credit cards and then had the nerve to dispute them and continue taking money from me. He was pushy, aggressive and very manipulative. I finally told him we would no longer go any further with the transaction unless he paid cash.
I locked all of my accounts, filed a police report and had to reopen new accounts. All of this was very new to me because I’ve never experienced anything like this before.
Another thing that scared me was how much personal information he knew. He stated my personal address, knew where my grandmother lived and selected an accurate location close to my home and grandmother so that he didn’t have to pay a travel fee per my contract. He even knew personal details about my grandparents and their children. It all made me a ball of nerves because so much was happening to me at once and my husband was out of town.
I have honestly felt defeated this week. I questioned whether or not I even wanted to continue my business. I was highly upset because you work so hard and sometimes feel so unnoticed. You feel like you’ve ran out of ideas and things just aren’t going your way.
But then you’re reminded of your customers who follow you everywhere you go. They become your family. They become some of your biggest supporters when you have loved ones who don’t even support you and that’s just a fact.
I have the biggest heart and I try my hardest to do right by others. I can definitely speak my mind way too much and open this mouth before thinking 😂 but I mean well.
I’m barely holding my head above water right now but I remember my purpose and what my goal was when I started. I never intended for this to be easy and one thing about me, I won’t give up until it’s on MY own terms.
Kinfolk Kitchen’s payment account has been under investigation while the disputes are being approved or declined so we have not been operating. We have honestly just taken it day by day. We just now got back into our account because someone hacked us and we’re still trying to get everything back in order.
I pray that this person is found and will be held accountable.
Just keep us lifted up in prayer because we are tired. We are hurt, frustrated and mentally drained from everything that has happened this week.
But we aren’t through yet. ❤️
Kinfolk Kitchen will be back. We may be a little more cautious and a whole lot wiser after this but I refuse to let someone take away something I worked so hard to build.
Thank you to everybody who continues to support us, check on us, pray for us and show up for Kinfolk Kitchen. Y’all really don’t know how much it means to me. ❤️
