When we came to Wisconsin, almost everything felt new and unfamiliar. But over time, as we began meeting people here, we realized how special this place truly is.

In the Chippewa Valley — in Eau Claire and Altoona — there are incredibly kind, caring, and welcoming people. During our life here, we have met so many people willing to support us, help us, or simply be there, and we truly feel blessed to be part of this community. ❤️

Altoona has become especially close to our hearts. It is where Borsch House found its home.

It is also the community where our dear family friend, Katie Groves, lives.

When we first arrived, Katie, an English teacher, volunteered to help us with English. That simple act of kindness grew into a genuine friendship between our families.

Katie has always shown sincere interest in Ukrainian culture and supports what we share through Borsch House. From time to time, she helps us simply because she wants to support our culture and what we are creating here. At the same time, through Katie and her family, we continue learning more about American culture. ❤️

This season, Katie’s daughter, Brooke, also became part of our Borsch House team.

Today was Brooke’s last day with us, and we want to thank her for everything she brought to our team.

Brooke is responsible, punctual, hardworking, organized, and kind. She learned everything so quickly, and even with our still-imperfect English, sometimes it felt like she understood us without words. 😊 We could always count on her.

Brooke, thank you for this season. We wish you a wonderful future, great opportunities, and people who will always appreciate your kindness and strong work ethic. ❤️

And a special thank you to the Groves family for your friendship and support. Connections like this are one of the reasons we appreciate our Chippewa Valley community so much.🤍🫂🤝🤝🤝

Another new special at Borsch House -OKROSHKA!😋

Last weekend we introduced you to Kholodnyk, and honestly, we weren’t sure how you would like it. But so many of you came back and asked for more! Thank you so much for your interest in Ukrainian food. 💙💛🤝

So this weekend we decided to make another popular Ukrainian summer soup — Okroshka!

Chicken, potatoes, eggs, cucumber, radish, green onion and fresh herbs, with our special kefir dressing and a little lemon. 🥒🌿😋

Cold, fresh, and so good on a hot summer day.

If you like trying something new, come see us! Fresh Okroshka will be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thank you for trying our food and supporting Borsch House!

Yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming filmmaker and creative director Nathan Wold (https://www.facebook.com/share/1Bna1CQJSx/?mibextid=wwXIfr )to Borsch House, Nathan traveled from Minnesota to spend the day with us, learn about Ukrainian culture, hear our family’s story, and discover the traditions behind our food.

As we got to know him, we learned about his remarkable professional journey. Nathan has many years of experience in the film and television industry and has worked with a number of respected organizations throughout his career. Today, he is passionate about telling meaningful stories about people, traditions, and cultures through visual storytelling.

We were grateful for the opportunity to share our own story—how two sisters came to the United States as immigrants, how Borsch House came to life, and what this journey has meant to our family.

It means more to us than words can express when people are willing to travel from another state to learn about our culture and visit our small family restaurant. We are deeply grateful to everyone who takes an interest in Ukraine, its traditions, and its people. Your curiosity, kindness, and support truly mean the world to us.

Thank you, Nathan, for your genuine curiosity, kindness, and passion for storytelling. We can’t wait to see the story you create and look forward to sharing it with everyone! 🤝❤️🫂
