Alaskaland

Alaskaland Alaskaland was an "Alaska" themed ice cream parlor and restaurant. The Harrisburg location opened in January 1970 (closed in 1973) in the Colonial Park Plaza.

After great success, the Altoona location was opened in December 1970 in the Weis Plaza.

Check out these cool T-shirts we're repping for https://yinzylvania.com. This is dad, myself and my sister, Linda, who also worked at Alaskaland back in the day... One of our FB followers alerted us to these shirts. We ordered them and then talked to the owner and he hooked us up after finding out that dad was the last living partner (along with Don Beaver Sr and Jim Young) of the original Alaskaland. You can check them out at https://yinzylvania.com/products/alaskaland-1?variant=42926594162907
They also have shirts from some other old time favorites like Sir Skate, Forest Zoo, etc. Really neat. Check them out.

It was like saying good bye to an old friend. So glad she will now be visited by new friends.

Exciting but bittersweet news to share today. When the last owners of Alaskaland decided to call it quits, my father, Perry Haupt, reached out to them and arranged to purchase the nickelodeon to keep it in the family. Keeping it to ourselves all these years just didn't seem right, so we recently decided to donate it to the Blair County Historical Society and they graciously accepted. Today was moving day. A big thanks to Walks Moving & Storage for taking care of the transportation. Its new home will be at Baker Mansion. I'm not sure how long it will take them to get it in place, but I'm told it will be part of the wedding exhibit. Please visit the mansion to see this wonderful piece of history in all its glory once again.

For those of you that remember the old Nickelodeon at the Altoona restaurant, I thought I’d post a video to let you know that we still have it in the family and it still works. Amazing after all these years.

Well, we’ve had some inquiries about the Alaskaland mascot, Growls the bear, so dad and I went digging through the archives on Fathers Day and we actually found a couple photos. Please forgive the quality as they are quite old.
