We would like to start by giving everyone a huge thank you for showing us nothing but immense support! We have had to make a very hard decision to turn off our delivery option through our website for a couple of reasons.
#1. Our volume of takeout and dine-in orders has been rapidly increasing over the past couple of months. Because of this, whenever a delivery needs to be made, we either run late because we’re constantly trying to play catch-up with the orders flowing in, or we simply don’t have consistently available delivery drivers who can get our delivery orders out the door. This can lead to canceled deliveries, which we are extremely uncomfortable doing.
#2. Gas is EXPENSIVE, and as a business, we recognize this problem. We will not expect anyone working for us to spend their own money on gas to make deliveries, especially when there is a risk of receiving no tip (which does happen). We also don’t want our hardworking employees putting miles on their vehicles for almost nothing financially in return. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but our employees show up to work to get paid, not to gamble.
#3. Our delivery orders are too inconsistent to justify hiring a dedicated delivery driver who would, once again, be taking a gamble on whether or not we have enough deliveries that night to make it worth their while. Some nights, we have 10+ deliveries that need to be made, while other nights, we have absolutely none.
We also want to acknowledge that larger, high volume pizza chains like Domino’s and Papa John’s are able to offer delivery on a completely different scale. Whether they like it or not, delivery has become a huge part of their business model, with a large majority of their business coming through delivery. Their entire operation is built around handling that volume, from dedicated drivers to systems designed specifically for delivery. That simply isn’t the business model we are a part of. We’re a local pizza shop that has grown through dine-in, takeout, and serving our community directly, and we have to make decisions based on what works best for our business and, most importantly, our customers and employees.
That being said, we’re still learning and growing as a business, so whenever the demand for deliveries goes up, we will pivot and find new solutions.
Remember, you can ALWAYS get your favorite pizza delivered straight to your door through DoorDash!
Thank you for understanding, and thank you for giving us this problem. It would be a very
