Introduction post - Ever since I moved to the Midwest (8 years ago) people always ask me what I miss most about home. Besides the obvious answer of family and friends (and good sports teams) the biggest thing I miss is the pizza!!!! I have often referred to it as Pittsburgh Pizza, but it’s not because they are known for their pizza. I believe it’s actually NY style pizza or something like that, but Pittsburgh is home and I miss the pizza. Around here you really only have two options: thin crust, aka cracker crust, and your run of the mill, chain pizza like Dominos and Little Caesar’s.

It’s been a dream of mine for awhile now to one day own my own pizza shop. Two years ago, Sean bought me a pizza oven and after lots of practice, I’ve started making my own “Pittsburgh Pizza”. Made from scratch dough using specialty 00 pizza flour from Italy, and sauce that simmers for well over an hour. The smells that have come from my kitchen this summer have taken me back to my trips to Italy years ago.

As some of you may know, last year I started my first year of teaching at Aspire High School. In my Careers class with all Seniors, I asked them a question on the first day of class: what is a life dream you have? After asking them this question the room was filled with lots of “I have no clue” and “idks” and “who knows”. But then someone asked me my own question, “B, what’s one of your dreams?”. I told them that I was living it (being a wife and mother, and teaching of course) but that I had always dreamed of opening my own pizza shop. I like to think I’m pretty quick witted and punny at times, so I said, “I would name it PittsBourg Pizza”. And there in that moment the dream took a step forward.

I am now taking the dream another couple of steps forward. After some trial and error I have been working on making a line of frozen pizzas and opening my driveway up once a month to sell made to order pizzas. I can’t promise you that they will be perfectly circular, but I can promise you they will be made with passion and taste pretty dang good. I plan to share more information in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more information and thanks for the support! All dreams have to start somewhere, so why not my driveway!
