Try our take on the popular Louisiana side dish, Maque Choux. (pronounced: "mock shoe") We've taken the classic vegetable dish and added ham and sausage among other things to create a delicious chowder.

While the exact origin of the dish is unknown it is believed to have Native American origins with Creole/Cajun influences. the name, Maque Choux comes from the French language meaning Mock Cabbage. While our version does not have cabbage the name of the dish suggests that cabbage may have been included in the recipe at some point in time towards the beginning.

Alma's Main Cafe will be closed on Saturday, July 4th - but you can find Alma's Main Cafe Food Truck and Catering in Breckenridge at the Tribe of El Elyon's 4th of July Celebration. Stop out to see us there!

We will be closing early due to the heat.

The City of Alma will be closing select parking lots for seal and striping over the next week. Here is the plan:

Scotland Yard Parking Lot - Starting Thursday, June 18, 2026
Parking Lot #4 & Parking Lot #8 - Starting Monday June 22, 2026
Parking Lot #5 - Starting Tuesday, June 23, 2026

All parking lots will be closed for approximately 2 days. No parking will be allowed during this time.

Please remove vehicles prior to the start date to avoid issues.
If a weather delay occurs, the schedule will shift to the next working day.

We very much appreciate your patience as we work to maintain and improve parking lots.

We know its a mess downtown and it's hard to navigate your way to all of the downtown businesses, but we promise it's worth the struggle!

We will still be open for regular business hours as construction continues - with one notable exception:

We will be closed this THURSDAY, May 28 due to construction. The city needs to shut off the water on Thursday for repairs, which will require us to close the business for the day.

We will keep you updated to any other changes for the Main Cafe as construction continues.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow during the Alma Highland Festival & Games - both here at the diner and at the festival with Alma's Main Cafe Food Truck and Catering.

The diner will be open for regular hours on Saturday, but we will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.
