Our story is one that was born out of quarantine: looking for a father-daughter activity with a recipe brought over from Italy, a recipe that was introduced to Philadelphia in the 1920s.

Dave’s brother always made an incredible tomato pie. The ingredients and recipe were always a well kept secret, but he shared it in this case because that’s what these brothers do.

Dave and his 11 year-old daughter decided to use the quarantine to bond in developing a new skill: baking tomato pie. This all started as something to bring family together.

The tomato pie was always a favorite of Annie’s, and she completed her breast cancer treatment just two months earlier. It was especially rewarding to bake something that brought her such joy. It felt like peace after a long and challenging year.

And as the country opened up, Dave started baking for friends and neighbors. Many started asking if they could buy a tomato pie for themselves. A seed was planted.

In the Old Country, tomato pie was often baked in the morning for guests to cut a piece off as they came over. Now more than ever, we are looking for ways to come together.

Annie formed Zanvan Craft Pizza for the start of a new journey.
