See ya around
Well, that is a wrap! Yesterday was officially our last day serving at La Ferme. Thank you to everyone who came out to Easter brunch yesterday and all who came in this past week to grab one last sandwich, salad, tomato soup or a cookie. Thank you for the warm hugs, flowers, beautiful cards, and messages you left written on our table or guest book.
Table 30, or "the nook" as we called it was our spot, our first "crowded table" literally. We ate all our meals there, took naps on the benches between services, played cribbage on snow days, and opened countless bottles of wine. At the end of 5 courses; any friends, family, and staff that were left, gathered around it, often pulling up additional tables to make it longer so we could all fit and reminisce over the evening while we exhaustedly ate any leftovers.
This past week we left it open for anyone to sign their name and leave a message. One friend wrote "This table changed my life" and it struck a chord deep in my heart. It most certainly changed my life. Thank you for sitting, sharing, supporting, laughing, drinking and eating with us! It has truly been a privilege and an honor. The table is coming with us and so are all the incredible memories.
I will truly miss hosting lunch service. The first day I started working up front, I felt at home behind that counter; greeting guests, helping them decide on their lunch order, and then getting to know them a little bit more with each visit. I never felt lonely.
I will even miss arguing with my mother in law through the window about whether or not she seasoned the soup, made the salad big enough or gave me the right order. Matthew blaming me if it was too busy and he felt overwhelmed giving me the evil eye, or accidentally putting sauce on a sandwich that was "sauce on the side" then stomping on it for pure fun and I am pretty sure just to hear his mom and I gasp in frugal frustration as that was a perfectly good sandwich!
Working along side family can be challenging and extremely wonderful. A giant thank you to our kids, Wesley, Eve, Ivy, and Parker. Watching you interact with guests radiating sincere kindness and generosity has made us so proud. Thank you for working alongside us and putting up with our long work days, Sorry we missed so many school and sporting events. We hope you will look back on our restaurant days with fondness.
WHAT's NEXT? - First a deep breath and a 10 day road trip. Our very first trip that won't be tarnished with the stress of leaving someone in charge of the restaurant or closing it for a week. When we return we plan to get Le Food Truck and The Crowded Table schedule out to you all. So stay tuned!
COOKBOOK - As of right now it is in the hands of our most grammatically correct friend for review! We hope to have it up on our website for purchase and download in a couple of weeks. Inside it you will find a special letter from Matthew and all the lunch recipes for sauces, dressings, and sandwich assembly. Yes the tomato soup and cookie recipes are included.
Love and thanks to you all,
Amber & Matthew
