Prichard Colón was only 23 years old, undefeated and considered one of Puerto Rico’s brightest young boxing prospects, when he entered the ring in Fairfax, Virginia, on October 17, 2015. He had a professional record of 16–0, including 13 knockouts.

That night, Colón faced Terrel Williams in what would become the final fight of his career.

During the bout, Colón was struck repeatedly by punches to the back of the head. He complained of dizziness, but the fight continued. After the ninth round, Colón was helped back to his dressing room, where his condition rapidly deteriorated. He began vomiting and collapsed.

Doctors discovered a devastating brain bleed and performed emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain.

Colón then spent 221 days in a coma. When he eventually left the hospital, he required around-the-clock care and faced enormous physical and neurological challenges. His family, especially his mother, remained by his side and dedicated years to his care and rehabilitation.

For more than a decade, the young boxer who once dreamed of becoming a world champion fought a completely different battle — the fight to recover the life he had before that night.

On August 13, 2026, Colón’s family confirmed that he had died at just 33 years old.

His story goes far beyond boxing. It is the story of a young Puerto Rican fighter whose promising career was suddenly taken away, and of a family that never stopped fighting alongside him.

Rest in peace, Prichard. 🕊️🥊
