When I made the decision to open Alden Bakery & Cafe 5 years ago , it was out of a deep desire to build something for my Family.
A Family Business made me proud!
And I felt it was a need for our community.
I knew nothing about running a coffee shop or a cafe. But I treated it as a challenge and journey. I was so proud to do everything from the dining design and kitchen layout, to the prep, right down to the last color choice and last screw put in the wall.
16 hour shifts and then weeks days and hours of prep work on top of being a Husband and Father.
I always was proud to call it a Family business.
And built something that was a success with no shortage of hard work.
I officially turned the business over to MY Wife, Bobbie Herrmann Phelps over the last several months, her background in taxes and payroll etc was a great contribution to the functioning of my vision.
Every one of our 5 children have worked at our café and the community has been nothing but kind and supportive to them , which makes our Family proud.
It took lots of sweat, late nights and vasts amounts of overtime in a state job I severely disliked, just to fund it through first 4 years to stay open. It has at times taken a toll on our family nucleus like I never thought. Creating and running the business was no small feat.
Our Phelps Family would like to thank everyone for the continued support.
The prayers for our Family and the well wishes for continued growth on the business.
Support comes in all forms. And even the smallest gestures and patronage helps.
