Xylitol is a lower-calorie sugar substitute found in many everyday products as an alternative sweetener. It may be no concern to us humans, but for our beloved animal companions, it’s a real danger. 🐕🐈❗

Pets absorb xylitol much faster and more completely than humans, making even small amounts potentially dangerous and leaving them especially vulnerable. And poisoning cases continue to rise. 😥 From 2015 to 2020, xylitol poisoning cases in pets surged by 108%, making this sweetener the second most common pet poison, right behind chocolate. ⚠️

What happens when your pet accidentally ingests xylitol? It can cause a quick drop in blood sugar, leading to loss of consciousness and seizures. High doses can trigger liver failure within days or hours. 🚨

Be sure to keep any and all products that contain xylitol out of your pet’s reach. 🚫🐾

🐾 MEET NIDA! 🐾

Nida is a loving, extremely curious, high-energy young terrier mix, about 2 years old and 19 pounds. This sweet, spirited girl loves toys, treats, her people, and doggie playmates—and when it’s cuddle time, she wants to be right beside you.

Nida will thrive in a highly active, child-free home with a playful canine companion and a secure 6-foot fence. She is nearly house-trained, walks fairly well on leash, and is still working on keeping four paws on the floor (and off the tables!). She is spayed, current on vetting, and microchipped.

This sweet little family came into the shelter together after being owner surrendered. On Saturday, some of Georgia’s babies were lucky enough to find homes, but Mama and these three little ones are still here waiting for their turn. 🥺❤️

Georgia is only 2 years old and has been taking care of her babies through all of this. Now she deserves the chance to be someone’s baby, too. And Daisy, Beau, and Huck are just 2 months old, three adorable little faces ready to grow up knowing what it means to have a family of their own.

They do not need to be adopted together. Each one is available and waiting for that special person to walk through the shelter doors and choose them.

Maybe Saturday was their siblings’ lucky day… let’s help make today theirs.
