We were given a most special gift from our son and daughter in law this morning. Travis confiscated the curtains unknowingly the last day. And Ashley carefully repurposed the curtains into a beautiful table runner and ornaments for our trees.

It is a labor of love that reminds us of all of you and the years we spent together. We wish you Merriest of Christmas!

Thank you for a wonderful last weekend. We continued to be humbled by your stories and how much the cafe has meant to you over the years. And while the food is great, and service amazing, what you shared with us about the most is the way the cafe made you FEEL.

With tears in your eyes you shared story after story with us about what our little teeny place in Merriman has meant to you. And the theme was always the same: RELATIONSHIPS! And this makes our hearts swell .... and some of our emotions came out of our eyes too.

It was a happy day knowing that we met our mission: to love people through hospitality.

We'll be making two more final posts. But before we do, we want to send out a huge THANK YOU for alll of YOU who showed up this weekend. Some of you drove a few hours to get here. Many of you changed your plans. These efforts are priceless gifts to us.

And our most final THANK YOU is to our STAFF. This week has been a rough one. Full of uncertainity and lots of emotions. Regardless they all showed up as the professionals they are, worked so hard, and helped us say good bye. To this group and to all our staff members over the years, YOU are the backbone of all that has happened here. You all played a part. There aren't enough words or ways to say thank you, so thank you it is.

Let's raise our glass to Valley Cafe Merriman! CHEERS! Job well done.

LAST DAY IS SUNDAY! Seeing so many of you today was both humbling and heart warming.

Thank you for loving our little place, sharing your stories, and wishing us well as we get ready to end this chapter of our adventure at 1212 Weathervane Lane.

✨ A Fond Farewell & A Bright New Beginning ✨

After over 17 years at 1212 Weathervane Ln, and with much prayer and consideration, we have made the heartfelt and difficult decision to close our Akron location.

(Valley Cafe Restaurant, Wadsworth remains open)

As we considered our age, energy levels, and our future, (including those precious grandbabies ❤️,) it became clear that it is time to consolidate our efforts.

As we wrestled with how to make this transition, our main concern was our staff. But then God. God answered and provided us a miraculous answer! (He is in the miracle business, afterall.)

Our landlord’s son, Andy—who once worked here as a kid when this was a donut shop—approached us about opening his own breakfast-and-lunch spot here called The Towpath Grille AND keeping our staff!!

Win-win-win. Our team stays employed, the neighborhood keeps a restaurant with many of your familiar menu items, and we can step into a new season with peace.

Our last day of service at 1212 Weathervane Ln will be this Sunday, September 28.

We invite you to celebrate with us this Saturday and Sunday, September 27–28. Come share memories, hugs, and good food. Both Chef BJ and Nicole, along with our amazing team, and the new owners, Andy and Hadley, will be here to celebrate this transition with you, as one chapter closes and another one opens at 1212 Weathervane Ln.

And don’t worry, if you’re craving your Valley Cafe favorites, Valley Cafe Restaurant, Wadsworth remains open and is a quick drive away! Gift cards and loyality points can be used at both Valley Cafe Restaurant, Wadsworth or Dolce at the Strand.

With gratitude and appreciation to you, our loyal guests who have returned with friends for years, we can't thank you enough. We appreciate learning your stories, being part of your celebrations and traditions.
