*TIPS FOR ADMINISTERING DRINKING WATER METHOD VACCINATION ON POULTRY*

Administering live vaccines through drinking water is one of the most practical methods in poultry farming.

It is commonly used for diseases like Infectious Bursal Disease (Gumboro) and Newcastle Disease, especially
because these diseases affect the digestive systemโ€”so the vaccine is delivered exactly where it matters most.

But here are the truth farmers learn quickly: โ€œA vaccine is only powerful if the birds actually drink it!โ€

*1. Mind the Time โ€“ Live Vaccines Are โ€œShort-Lived Guestsโ€*

Live vaccines are sensitive and do not stay active for long in water. They should ideally be consumed within 1 to 1.5 hours after mixing.

Think of it like fresh teaโ€”after a while, it loses its strength!

So, your goal is simple: Ensure all birds drink the vaccine within that short window

*2. Make Them Thirsty (But Not Suffering)*

One of the best tricks in poultry vaccination is controlled water withholding.

โ€ข Withhold water for 4โ€“5 hours before vaccination.

โ€ข This makes the birds eager and ready to drink immediately.

A thirsty bird = a cooperative patient!

*3. Feed and Water Are Best Friends*

In poultry, feed and water always work together.

When birds eat, they naturally drink more water.

So, timing feeding before vaccination can help increase water intake and improve vaccine uptake.

Think of feed as the โ€œstarterโ€ and water as the โ€œdelivery system.โ€

*4. Keep Chemicals Away โ€“ Vaccines Are Sensitive Souls*

Live vaccines are very delicate.

They can easily be destroyed by:

โ€ข Chlorinated water
โ€ข Disinfectants
โ€ข Soap residues
โ€ข Any sanitizing chemicals

If the vaccine were a person, it would say: โ€œNo bleach near me, please!โ€

*5. Clean Hands, Clean Tools, Clean Success*

Small mistakes can ruin the whole vaccination process.

So always:

โœ“ Wash hands thoroughly (and rinse soap well).

โœ“ Mix vaccines in a clean, disinfectant-free area.

โœ“ Avoid placing vaccine bottles

*๐Ÿฅ DID YOU KNOW? WHY DO WE USE NEWSPAPERS OR MAGAZINES DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF BROODING?*

Hello farmers! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Many beginners spread sawdust or wood shavings in the brooder from Day 1, but did you know this can be risky for newly hatched chicks?

During their first 7 days of life, chicks are still learning to identify what is food and what is not.

If sawdust or wood shavings are exposed, they may peck and swallow the fine particles, mistaking them for feed.

This can lead to digestive problems, poor growth, and even death in severe cases.

*โœ… So what should you do?*

Spread sawdust or wood shavings on the floor first, then cover them with newspapers or old magazines during the first week.

This gives chicks a clean, safe surface while they learn to eat properly.

After about 7 days, the chicks can easily distinguish feed from litter.

At this stage, remove the newspapers or magazines and allow them to stay directly on the sawdust or wood shavings.

*โš ๏ธ Important Tips*

โœ“ Never allow chicks to go hungry. Hungry chicks are more likely to peck at and swallow litter.

โœ“ Replace newspapers or magazines immediately if they become wet or damp. Wet bedding encourages bacteria, increases ammonia levels, and can lead to respiratory diseases such as pneumonia.

โœ“ Ensure the brooder has good ventilation. Fresh air helps prevent the build-up of harmful ammonia gas from droppings.

โœ“ Rake or stir the litter every day to keep it dry and fluffy, and replace it whenever it becomes excessively wet or dirty.

๐ŸŽฏ Your goal during brooding should be less than 5% mortality. Good brooding management during the first week lays the foundation for healthy, fast-growing, and productive birds
