About our house & gardens
Our home is one of the oldest houses in Entebbe—perhaps even THE oldest, circa 1898. We believe it was built for the first curator of the Botanical Gardens Entebbe, the most respected Mr. A. Whyte, who planted the gardens and collected exotic specimens from all over the British Empire.
Actor Johnny Weissmuller, who played Tarzan in the 1930s and 40s, filmed in the gardens, and would have most certainly been invited to the house by the curator.
Legend has it that President Idi Amin used it for secret rendezvous, romantic and otherwise, during his reign between 1971 and 1979.
In 2000, Dr. Bob and Linda Drescher took possession of the property, and have brought it to its current state, carefully preserving its special features and narrative.
