Gyoza (Gyoza). This is one of the famous dishes in Japan. The mouthwatering Japanese dumplings, which are served alone or with a plate of tasty broth. There is something incredibly satisfying about wrapping meat or vegetables in a thin film of dough and then frying them!

There's something universally pleasing about roasted meats. And that's why Kushiyaki made the list, too! Kushiyaki is a variety of grilled and spit-roasted dishes. Yakitori is the most popular and usually means pieces of chicken on a skewer of a certain type. Unofficially, many people call all kushiyaki by this name . Although it may seem a little strange, I highly recommend choosing chicken hearts or liver on a stick. Unexpected, but definitely among the best Japanese dishes to try!

Literally "grilled," okonomiyaki is Japanese comfort food at its best and a clear violation of the typical sophisticated image of Japanese cuisine. It's a savory pancake filled with any number of ingredients (but usually cabbage and pork) with fish flakes, dried seaweed, mayonnaise and Worcester sauce. It's also a lot of fun--in most restaurants, diners fry the dish themselves on a stove built into the table.

Unagi is a river eel, usually grilled over charcoal and coated in a sweet barbecue sauce. According to folklore, unagi is the perfect antidote to the heat and humidity of Japan's stultifying summer. It's a delicacy reminiscent of old Japan, and most eel restaurants take a surprisingly traditional approach. Fresh, wild-caught unagi is available from May through October.

Part dinner, part artwork, kaiseki is haute cuisine in Japan. It originated centuries ago with the Kyoto tea ceremony (and Kyoto remains the birthplace of kaiseki). There is no menu, just a string of small dishes carefully arranged on exquisite dishes. Only fresh ingredients are used, and each dish is created with the current season in mind.

Noodles - soba, udon, and, of course, ramenю. Soba, long thin buckwheat noodles, have long been a staple of Japanese cuisine, especially in mountainous areas where hardy buckwheat grows better than rice. The noodles are served either in hot broth flavored with soy sauce or at room temperature on a bamboo mat with broth on the side for dipping. Purists who complain about noodles with soup prefer the latter.

Syabu-Syabu. It's a serving and eating technique: thin slices of marbled pork or beef served raw along with a pot of sizzling broth right on the table. And the fun part starts here - the person eating, coiling the pieces of meat onto chopsticks and dipping them into the hot liquid, quickly preparing them for consumption right here and now. If you've ever heard of pristine Wagyu beef , among other Japanese dishes, be sure to try it in Kyoto.

All the respect for elders, food quality and craftsmanship embodied in a small bite of freshly prepared local flavor . Although it will be an expensive step, sushi is definitely one of the Japanese dishes worth trying in Tokyo. There you will encounter the widest variety of places, and thus the opportunity to choose the right price range.
