To Our Fai’s Chinese Restaurant Family,
There are some words you never imagine having to write. After 37 unforgettable years, the time has come for our family to say goodbye. Our final day of service was Sunday 26th July 2026.
Our journey began in 1989 with our first restaurant, Rodeo One on Queen Street, Port of Spain. Although we sadly lost it during the 1990 Coup, we refused to let that define us. We rebuilt our lives in Tunapuna with East Ocean Chinese Restaurant, later expanded to Tobago, and in 1992 proudly opened Fai’s Chinese Restaurant.
What began as a family rebuilding after adversity became far more than a restaurant. It became a place where generations celebrated birthdays, weddings, graduations, anniversaries, retirements, family gatherings and life’s milestones. We watched children grow into adults who later returned with families of their own.
You were never just customers, you became part of our family.
To those who are no longer with us, thank you for the memories. To those who continue to support us, thank you for allowing our family to become part of yours. To everyone who migrated overseas but made Fai’s one of their first stops whenever they returned home to Trinidad, thank you. That is a compliment we will always treasure.
To every member of staff who walked through our doors, thank you for your loyalty and dedication. We are especially proud to have supported so many families, including many single parents, and to have watched our staff grow alongside us.
We are equally proud of the many chefs who trained and worked with us before building successful careers at renowned hotels, international cruise ships, and restaurants such as Yang’s Wok, Cantonese Kitchen, Cantonese Wok, Centura Garden, Fortune Chinese Restaurant, Long’s Chinese Restaurant, and many others. Watching their success has been one of our greatest honours.
To our suppliers from farmers & fishermen to butchers, market vendors, delivery drivers, family businesses & long-standing companies, thank you. Every meal we served was only possible because of your friendship, trust and support.
Your support also allowed us to give back to our community through local schools, churches, charities, sports teams and fundraising events. It was always our privilege to help whenever we could.
We would also like to put one rumour to rest. Over the years, many people heard that someone in our family had passed away. Thankfully, that is not true. Our family is well and all abroad.
After decades of long days, late nights, weekends and public holidays, we have made the difficult decision to retire from the restaurant business.
While this marks the end of our family’s chapter, it is not the end of the restaurant’s story. The restaurant will continue serving the community as it transitions to new ownership and, in time, a new name and identity. We extend our heartfelt best wishes to those continuing its journey and hope they create many wonderful memories of their own.
Thirty-seven years cannot be summed up in a single post. All we can truly say is thank you. Thank you for every meal, every conversation, every celebration, every recommendation and every memory. Thank you for allowing our family to serve generations of Trinidad & Tobago. You gave us far more than a business, you gave us friendships, purpose and memories that we will carry with us forever.
Though our woks may grow quiet, the memories we created together never will.
