Letter From Gabriel Glanville
"My name is Gabriel Glanville, a former St. Mary’s College Student who has recently graduated from the University of Law- London Bloomsbury. I write this letter as an appeal for Financial Assistance from the public to complete my legal studies.
My Education began at Rosary Boys’ R.C. where I excelled and would later pass for the prestigious St. Mary’s College. I attended St. Mary’s College from 2008-2015, where I obtained nine (9) passes in my Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams and three (3) passes in my Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam (CAPE. I did not come from the wealthiest of backgrounds, but I did not allow my circumstances to limit my ambitions. It has always been my dream to study Law in the United Kingdom (UK) and upon completion of my CAPE examinations I immediately sought employment to save for my Tuition fees in the UK. I had an array of jobs during this time; I began work at the Port of Spain Corporation for a short period of time until I later began work as a Legal Assistant at a Law Firm in Port of Spain.
Working in law firm proved to be quite a challenge at first, but I soon became accustomed to the degree of pressure and the high pace of the office. During my time there I would accept any request to work overtime or on the weekends as I began to develop a true passion for the work I was doing as well as the additional remuneration I received for my added service. My weekly work did not stop there, on every weekend I spent my time providing different services from washing cars to ironing clothing for other in the hope to further save towards my goal. After a year of working round-the-clock and with the assistance of my mother, I was able to save enough money for my first year’s tuition.
In September of 2016 I left the shores of Trinidad to embark on my journey to become an Attorney-at-Law in the UK at the University of Law- London Bloomsbury. I did not have my full tuition far less maintenance fees to carry me far beyond my first year’s stay in the UK, of which I had an additional two more years to proceed but the support of my mother, my own personal ambitions and most importantly my faith in God was all I needed to take this leap into the unknown. The completion of this degree and my time in the UK did not come without its own set of trials and difficult times ranging from tuition fees, the cost of living and often even going several days without something to eat. But my resolve never wavered, I knew what my goal was and stayed on course to achieving it. I tried my best to mitigate my expenses with several jobs ranging from being a kitchen cleaner, a chef, an event steward and a waiter.
During my time off from school, whether it be my summer or Christmas break I would often work in excess of seventy (70) to eighty (80) hours per week to save for my tuition and this would be my status quo for my entire tenure in the UK. Being unable to afford a ticket back home to Trinidad after my initial year where I returned for five (5) weeks at the end of August of 2017. I would go on to spend every Christmas, Summer and Easter break working tirelessly to save, all the while having to study and complete course work for my degree. I subsequently was able to obtain my Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.) with Honours as of September of 2019 however I was unable to attend my Graduation ceremony on the 5th day of October 2019, as my VISA had expired and I did not have enough funds to purchase a ticket to return.
I have since returned to Trinidad on the 23rd day of September 2019 to renew my Student VISA in order to resume my studies in January of 2020, to obtain my Msc in Law, Business and Management which is the equivalent of the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (also known as the Legal Practice Course-LPC) with an additional Master’s Degree Award. I require this degree to practice law in Trinidad or the United Kingdom. The cost of my tuition, accommodation, airfare and living expenses would be a sum in excess of Eighteen Thousand Pounds (£18,000.00) or One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Trinidad and Tobago Dollars ($180,000.00).
I humbly appeal to your company to assist me in my upcoming endeavor. Any amount received will be gratefully appreciated and can be made at any Branch of Scotia Bank in the name of Gabriel Glanville account number 104054005666. I may also be contacted at 272-3245 or [email protected].
Yours Respectfully,
GABRIEL GLANVILLE"
