In the center of an island in the southern Caribbean, a local gentleman and his bride were inspired to create an Oasis. Located in Trinidad and Tobago’s Caroni Plain, a western-central region less than an hour’s car ride from the capital of Port of Spain, ‘Salus Lifestyle’ is named after a Roman Goddess of safety and well-being for individual and state; and conceived by Hisham and Meera to bring healthy, ‘clean’ recipes and relaxation spaces to their family, community, and country. Salus is not open to the general public, we operate by referrals, reservations and bookings with our clients.. Through research and sourcing of *certified organic ingredients, blended with produce from local farmers who grow food free of harmful pesticides and other chemicals, their challenge and passion daily is to use only ingredients that fall into either of these two categories. Customers receive the call of the day; a healthy and spontaneous plate of wholesome goodness, filled with fresh ingredients and pure love. It’s a challenging undertaking yes, and worth of every morsel. Starting small and immediately realizing a market for this refined product, they are today building an oasis in space and time around their home in Chaguanas, in order to welcome curious customers, guests, groups, and friends of new and long-time. A growing garden and a kismet kitchen are Meera’s Departments. From her childhood, she has been preparing for health and nutrition in her lifestyle. An outdoor sanctuary with a ‘wading’ pool, a small, wood-sealed and stained dance floor, eating and seating areas for respite, come from Hisham, and lay out as meeting, networking and relaxation spaces around their home. It’s a personal and private offer for peace and palette. It’s unique, and when you will know you are in a different kind of dynamic. A garden spreads out at the entrance, intermingling herbs and vegetables with some seating areas, a source for some of the food to be grown and cooked seasonally. Soft music and a soaking pool surrounded by additional water features, softened by greenery in landscape designs, work in collusion to peace, tranquility and good health, both inside and out. Says Meera, “the meals are prepared based on what is fresh and at-hand for that day. We are serving happiness, through a labour of love and selective ingredients.”
Since embarking on this Journey, Meera has completed her certificates in Holistic Nutrition and Herbalism, and offers food and nutrition advise in an area of expertise that she is now qualified. Hisham has methodically and thoroughly brought the place to life with plants, water and layout designs, through streaming music, manufacturing and mirage. Says Hisham, “I want our guests to leave with a feeling in their spirit, that was not there before.”
This is a sneak peek to say, that to sit in this oasis of peace, while sipping organic wine and nibbling on something prepared fresh from Meera’s kitchen, is to feel something on the inside that you will bring away with you. Come and see for yourselves. Call now for delivery on local lunches; and stay tuned for an Opening in December. Follow us, to see the development of this peace/piece in paradise. As well as to learn and develop with Hisham and Meera about the wonders and challenges of clean eating in Trinidad and Tobago.
