The Bauska Castle is located in Zemgale, South Latvia, approx 80 km drive from Riga through a country side often referred to as Latvia’s breadbasket, with vast fields of crops and a network of rivers stretching all the way to the border with Lithuania.

The castle, located on a mound surrounded by the rivers Memele and Musa, was the residence of Dukes of Courland: the very extensive exhibit gave us the opportunity to acquire more details about the establishment of the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia; the reign of Dukes Kettlers; and the mid seventeenth century fortification dutch system which might have been adopted for the construction of the fortifications in Gambia (1651) and in Tobago (1654).

The Museum Buccoo is located upstairs our restaurant: exhibit with photos and details will be available from July, whatsapp 7155465.

Gabriele and Camille are in Latvia to acquire more in deep details on the 17th century history of the the Duchy of Courland (a vassal of Poland in modern-day Latvia) which briefly became a transatlantic colonial power under Duke Jacob Kettler, establishing a strategic trading outpost in Gambia (West Africa) in 1651 and a successful colony called "New Courland" in Tobago (Caribbean) in 1654.

The town of Riga (Capital of Latvia) is the base for an intense itinerary which includes visits to the Latvian National Archives; Latvia National Library; traveling to the districts of Jelgava, Rundale, Bauska to visit Castles and Museums; and reaching Ventspils on the coast (Livonian Castle and shipyards).

Photos and details will be on exhibit at the Museum Buccoo, located upstairs our restaurant - after the 10th June. Gabriele 7155465

Penne Puttanesca, an Italian summer favorite prepared with olives, capers, tomato sauce, hot pepper (can also be prepared mild)!

In particular, the owner of a local restaurant, Sandro Petti, would have invented the puttanesca sauce recipe in the 1950s for his customers. The recipe would then become famous all over the world.

This very flavorful pasta is also available for lunch, Buon Appetito!
