Exchange of words ends in shooting at San Fernando Hill as gunman targets man
A 40-year-old man was wounded after a gunman allegedly pulled a fi***rm from a side bag and opened fire at him at San Fernando Hill on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. on August 16, near the play park at the popular San Fernando landmark.
Police said an informant was walking through the area when he was approached by a man dressed in black and carrying a black side bag across his chest.
After briefly speaking with the informant, the man continued along the hill.
The informant then reportedly saw the suspect approach the 40-year-old victim, who was walking behind him.
A verbal exchange followed.
Police said the suspect then pulled a black fi***rm from his side bag, pointed it at the victim and fired.
The informant reported hearing three loud explosions before seeing the victim run downhill in an attempt to escape.
The gunman then fled on foot, heading uphill.
Passers-by assisted the wounded man and transported him to San Fernando General Hospital.
Officers from the Mon Repos Police Station and CID, led by Roopchand, visited the scene and conducted checks for the suspect, but he was not found.
Investigators later went to the hospital to interview the victim, but were unable to do so because he was undergoing surgery.
A medical certificate has been requested and remains outstanding.
Police are expected to revisit San Fernando Hill to determine the precise location of the shooting and process the scene.
