I left my Tavale, Rokoba Tuimouta and his kid's flat at around 9pm this evening after calking the Crowns Taxi base to pick me up along the road towards town and take me to Vunivau from Namara.
When I got in the car I saw the driver pressed the meter and there you go bang!!!OMG meter reads $3.30!!!. I then asked the driver politely:
PM: Bhai why do you have to start at $3.30c when it's only 10 past 9pm now??
Driver : Areh after 9 its starts at $3.30.
Poor Me: but that's wrong it should be the normal day time fare which is $2.30 and you can only starts with $3.30 when it's 10pm.
Driver: Areh we here in Labasa we all charged people this after 9pm.
*By that time we were closed to the main Labasa Police Station and then I told him to stop there. He was sitting inside his cab when I went to ask and clarify this issue with the Police Officers. So they called the driver and the poor drive came in with all sorts of explanations but the officers kept telling him to stop robbing the public and should be careful next time. So I told the driver I will find another cab when i saw the meter was already $6.50.
A few steps ahead I stopped another one and the same thing happened when it was only 0925pm. I asked him when we approached the police post beside the taxi stand.
Poor Me: why starts at $3.30?
Poor driver: Hare 9pm all taxi here in Labasa starts the meter at $3.30 and it was approved by Bainimarama govt.
PM: Oi ok but Bainimarama is no longer running the govt, please stop at the Market Police Post to clarify this.
He didnt want to and told me to get off on the main road with that rude attitude and fkcuked crroked facial impressions. (Au ma vaadre saraga vaasia au kai rubilaina i taligana ma dua na i roba rasarasa, kau aya sara vei oya)
PM : Go report me to the police(Maka na vaa ka oro ena)😂😂
PD : minjinamuuu naso levu ! At the same time accelerating his speed and bugged off!. I walked straight to a black i Taukei Gas Taxi and when I got inside the car, the poor driver pressed the meter and the same thing happened again, this time it was 0935pm. I then let him drive and asked him again just like the previous drivers. He then asked me:
PD: Where are you from?
PM: Labasa kido born dea die dea!
PD: You're the first one to ask me as never once during these past years since it's normal and a common knowledge with the public here in Labasa.
PM: Nah I'm just curious because I've never seen it in Suva or any other town nationwide. I will surely go and ask the LTA tomorrow on this issue.
PD: I will definitely go as well to clarify and clear this, and to be honest I really don't know what's the truth on this.
■ My question is who is right and who is wrong here?? Is it the Poor Driver or Poor Me???
