I had always enjoyed dabbling in a bit of baking here and there but it was only after I began baking as an adult that I realized how much I loved it. Everyone has their passion and mine is making beautiful and interesting cakes. Initially my cakes were born of boxes (alas!) and decorated using store bought decorations - which was okay for a w
hile till I wanted more. Although friends and family loved my efforts, I yearned to create the truly professional looking cakes in magazines and so I took a course- and another and another and another! It was so addictive and there was always something more to learn.....
My biggest learning was, however, the understanding of why custom cakes are so expensive- after slaving over just one sugar rose for over an hour I realized the price was for the specialized labor and time that goes into creating the beautiful finishes of the cakes, hence the old adage” Cheap cakes are not good and good cakes are not cheap”. Today with Cake Art I am confident in being able to offer my customers not only cakes using the best and freshest ingredients (no box mixes in this kitchen!) but cakes which are unique to their needs.
