Samut Prakan declared all six districts flood disaster areas on September 27, covering every subdistrict in the Thai province after heavy rain and high tides caused widespread flooding.
The provincial declaration records flooding from 6am on September 23, citing dangers to residents and damage to public or private property.
Government agencies, local authorities and relevant private-sector organisations have been directed to provide urgent assistance within their responsibilities under disaster legislation and response plans.

Drivers of small cars have been warned not to enter seven flooded locations, including Ekkamai and the King Kaeo junction area on Lat Krabang Road, according to a September 26 report.

The report also lists 21 routes around Bangkok to avoid, with closures reported at several points on major roads and in surrounding side streets.

Bangkok authorities urge motorists to check water and traffic conditions before travelling, avoid flooded roads and follow officials’ instructions.

Here’s why….

A low-pressure cell, designated "Invest 92W" by the United States' Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), has been travelling along a monsoon trough through Central Thailand right over the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, and it's approximated to leave Thailand by tomorrow morning (27 September). You can think of it as a weaker version of a tropical depression that can't really develop into something stronger like a tropical storm or a typhoon because it's over land right now, but it still produces consistent downpours nonetheless.

Bangkok was hit by widespread road flooding and severe traffic disruption on September 25 after hours of persistent rain, with the highest 24-hour rainfall total reaching 105.5mm in Khlong Sam Wa.

Major routes including Vibhavadi Rangsit, Chaeng Watthana, Ram Inthra and Debaratna Road were affected, while flooding was also reported in Sai Mai, Bang Khen and neighbouring Nonthaburi.

Motorists were urged to avoid badly flooded areas, check traffic conditions before travelling and use elevated routes where possible as authorities continued pumping water and monitoring canal levels.
