An update on Spice Sea Eat and Sleep progress. I haven't posted in a while as we're at the "ugly stage" of the construction with all the concrete, electrical and plumbing behind the scenes work going on. Dusty dusty dusty.
However, yesterday I saw the rooms are finally beginning to look like something with the walls and floors mostly rendered. We've received some of the floor and wall tiles now and they will begin going in the rooms and the bathrooms.
The crews are doing a good job. Their finishing work is just the way it's supposed to be. It looks like Ohn hired two good teams.
The downstairs restaurant area is still a huge mess, not sure what's taking so long there, this is the architect's job. But we're not worried, we should be open by November 1st. Maybe earlier. All our rooms at Sugar and Spice Inn are fully booked from Nov 1 to March 1 so we need the rooms. Ohn's pretty sure we will fill up fast as there is under supply in Kata Beach during high season. Or course during low season (now), there is a huge, huge over supply--we can't give roooms away. The restaurants stay busy all year-round but the rooms are a little tougher. That's the way it's always been. I doubt it will change. With the amount of building going on on the island it will just get worse, not better.
The government is also working on all the local streets in Kata Beach, doing what looks like flood prevention measures. I'm sure glad they are getting it done now and didn't begin in high season like they sometimes do. I think they are almost finished but the noise for a few days was deafening. Hopefully when the rains come again--which should be soon--the streets will no longer flood as much.
