Merry Christmas! Our present to you: the below recipe for a non-alcoholic version of German gluewein (hot mulled red wine). Enjoy! See you in 2018!

Mulled Bissap (Non-alcoholic version of German gluewein)

Ingredients:
2 cups bissap (red, dried flowers)
10 cups water
1/8 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
½ cup fresh squeezed mandarine juice
1 Tablespoon honey (lighter and completely liquid)
10 broad mint leaves
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons zest from lime
10 cloves
Pieces of mandarine rind

Equipment:
Large pot
Stirring spoon that reaches the bottom
Knife
Tablespoon & teaspoon
Strainer

Directions:
1. Stick the cloves into the mandarine rind
2. Put mandarine rinds, bissap, water, cinnamon and mint leaves in a large pot, stir well
3. Put heat on high until it reaches a boil, then turn down to medium. It should have a strong, constant boil. Make sure to stir often to prevent things from sticking to the bottom.
4. After 3 minutes, add the rest of the ingredients (except honey). Stir gently and often.
5. Cook until about 1/3 of the liquid has evaporated or until taste.
6. Slowly stir in the honey
7. Strain out the rinds and cloves

Serve hot!

ADVANCED OPTIONS: you can experiment with Star Anis spice, nutmeg, and using cinnamon sticks

A big thank you to Dakar Eats for featuring our SnoCones! We'll be back outside EAB today. "Abracadabra Magic Food is helping cool off Dakar with their deliciously flavored shaved ices. Made with mineral water and local syrups, they grind the ice right in front of you and mix in what you want. Bissap, lime, mint, ginger, tamarind, maad, pineapple, strawberry, even a kinkeliba flavor. (On special days, there’s also whipped cream and chocolate sauce on offer.) "

MONUMENT MARQUE sure looks like it's local rice — but if you read the small print it turns out it's imported from Pakistan. As you might know, using local products is one of Abracadabra's core values: we use Riz du Walo — sacks and sacks and sacks of it! 😜 🇸🇳
