𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐍𝐮𝐭 & 𝐏𝐚𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐭 (commonly known as a Chien Mahk or a Betel Set).
It is used to hold, prepare, and serve components for chewing betel leaf.
While chewing betel is a disappearing custom today, these ornate brass sets remain highly significant as cultural symbols used during major ceremonies, family gatherings, and traditional weddings to welcome guests or serve as an offering to elders and monks.
This is one of the most treasured antiques among Thais today.

Key Components Visible in the Set:

• 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 (𝐁𝐚𝐢 𝐏𝐡𝐥𝐮): Wrapped green leaves neatly stacked in the brass cone holder (top right).

• 𝐒𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐬 (𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐤): The patterned, chopped pieces resting in the leftmost small dish.

• 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 (𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐧): The thick red paste kept inside the upper left container.

• 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨 (𝐘𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐧): The fibrous brown material in the cup(bottom right).

• 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐤 (𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐢): Used by some users to clean the mouth or add to the chew mixture(bottom right).

• 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐍𝐮𝐭 𝐂𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫: The heavy, hinged brass tool on the bottom right used to slice tough areca nuts.

• 𝐏𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞: The brass cylinder and wooden stick in the center, used to crush ingredients for a finer blend.
