The collaboration between ASIC and Oxfam through the Gender Transformative and Responsible Agribusiness Investments in Southeast Asia (GRAISEA) program has been instrumental in promoting sustainable seafood practices in Asia, significantly impacting both environmental sustainability and social equity in the Southeast Asian region.

OXFAM's commitment to gender-transformative approaches has helped shaped ASIC initiatives. Recognizing the crucial role of women in fisheries and aquaculture, OXFAM has long advocated for gender equality and empowerment in the seafood industry. Through our efforts, ASIC addresses gender-based discrimination, promotes equal opportunities, and supports women's empowerment by incorporating a strong gender component into the ASIC Social and Gender Standard.

Due to limited shrimp stock availability, many Indonesian shrimp farmers struggle to increase yield in shrimp production. But KONTINU, a community of shrimp observers, is working to change that. KONTINU aims to revive the popularity of black tiger shrimp while promoting sustainable farming practices to reduce environmental impact and supporting producers in providing high-quality shrimp products.

As consumers, we have the power to support sustainable farming practices by choosing products grown in responsible ways. By selecting products from small-scale, sustainable farms, such as those supported by KONTINU, we can help small-scale farmers thrive while safeguarding the environment.
