Looking for a date-night spot that's a little different from the usual?
Today, we discovered Leila along Teck Lim Road, Mediterranean restaurant with Middle Eastern influences, sharing plates and a lively evening atmosphere.
Weβve had Mediterranean food in Singapore before, but Leila offers a slightly different take. Think fluffy bread, creamy tahini, grilled seafood, peppers, herbs, spices and plenty of chilli.
And here's something fun: Thursday nights are Arabian Nights, with a belly-dance performance. So if you're planning a date night, that's probably the night I'd pick.
But first⦠what's actually worth ordering?
1) Kubana Bread
Warm, golden and ridiculously fluffy, served with crushed tomato and really good tahini. The tahini was so good we kept going back for more.
π¦ Worth it? YES. Start with this.
2) Spicy Plate
Grilled peppers with harissa and garlic confit. VERY hot. (We almost died. π€£) But because it's annoyingly addictive, we kept going back.
π¦ Worth it? YES. if you like spicy food. You've been warned.
3) Nablus Salad
Cucumber, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions and mint with lemon, salt & pepper. Fresh, crunchy and tangy. A good reset between the richer dishes.
4) Manseef
Minced chicken with hummus, harissa, pine nuts and cherry tomatoes. Creamy, savoury, nutty and comforting, with a little heat. Great for sharing.
5) Green Chili Shrimp
Grilled shrimp with spicy green tatbila sauce. Juicy, lightly charred and punchy. One of our favourites. We'd definitely order this again.
π¦ Worth it? Definitely.
6) Kunafe
Kataifi, jibana cheese, toasted pistachio, rose and ice cream. Crispy, gooey, creamy and sweet. Save room for this.
For drinks, we ordered:
1) Berry Breeze Mocktail
Fruity, tart and refreshing.
2) Lime Dream Mocktail
Bright, zesty and refreshing, with an interesting herbal note.
π¦ Our take?
The biggest draw wasn't just one spectacular dish, but the combination of interesting flavours, sharing plates and atmosphere that makes Leila feel like more than just dinner.
