Two weeks ago, Gentlebros welcomed guests back to the table for our very first private dining experience.

After the café closed, I wasn’t sure when I’d be cooking for people again. Standing in someone else’s kitchen, preparing each course and serving it one plate at a time reminded me why I started Gentlebros in the first place.

This wasn’t about opening a restaurant.

It was about creating an evening where good food brings people together.

Every dish was prepared fresh on the day, planned from scratch, and cooked in the comfort of the host’s home. Seeing conversations flow over every course reminded me that some things never change.

Thank you for trusting me to be part of your evening.

This is just the beginning.

One of the unexpected joys of restarting Gentlebros has been reconnecting with customers from the café days.

Over the years, some customers have become friends.

Recently, a few mentioned that they missed the food, so I spent the weekend preparing a small batch of meals for them.

Just a small gesture of appreciation for their continued support, friendship, and the memories we’ve shared through food over the years.

Grateful that even after all this time, we’ve stayed connected.

Yes, I’m cooking again.

I’m excited… and a little nervous at the same time.

Excited because after all this time, I’ll once again be doing something I’ve always loved - planning menus, cooking for people, and bringing everyone together around a table.

And nervous because I’ll be seeing some familiar faces again. Customers who supported Gentlebros Café through the years, and people whom I haven’t had the chance to catch up with in a long while.

But perhaps that’s part of the journey too.

Gentlebros.Table wasn’t created to replace the café. It’s simply a new chapter — a smaller, more intimate way for me to continue cooking, hosting, and sharing meals with people who appreciate good food and good company.

The philosophy behind my cooking hasn’t changed.

I still believe in wholesome, nourishing food made from quality ingredients and as little processing as possible. Simple food, prepared with care.

Last Saturday, I hosted my first private dining experience.

5 guests.
4 courses.
One dining table.

What surprised me most wasn’t the cooking.

It was how much I had missed everything that came with it.

Thinking about the menu.
Shopping for ingredients.
Prepping for service.
The rush of getting everything ready on time.

Even carrying all the ingredients and equipment into someone’s home felt strangely familiar.

By the end of the evening, I was tired, but I went home smiling.

I guess some things never change.

To everyone who has continued to support me, checked in on me, and asked if I’m cooking again - thank you.

nankin row, cross street exchange & finally cimb plaza, 3 locations in 8 years.

many fans of Gentlebros Cafe for 7-8 years would have known how the simple philosophy of serving genuine, freshly prepared, warm, hearty healthy food, made with fresh and mostly single-ingredients, from a small shop in nankin row, upgraded to a fully-equipped kitchen in cross street exchange during the Covid period, and then finally relocated in cimb plaza (due to major revamp at cross street)

We have dreamt of bringing original Gentlebros food to the bigger mass at Raffles place, but unforeseen and tough operating climate wasn’t making it sustainable.

breaking the news personally to our die-hard fans who had turned up for the past 2 days wasn’t easy, but necessary, as we are appreciative of everyone who made the dream possible for 8 years.

appreciative of the many new fans whom had found Gentlebros their comfort place, you know who you are!! it may be short, but memorable I believe.

thank you everyone for their kind words and wishes for the past 2 days, the guilty snacks you tried to make our team members fat!

massive kudos to the A-team(Reymark, Steven & William) who had been working relentlessly in the kitchen, to prepare and serve the delicious food that you loved! without them, we wouldn’t have been possible to retain old fans, and to gain the new ones!!

Thank you everyone for bearing with my seemingly loud voice, small chats we had at the counter, cosy conversations when I had more time, and apologies for the occasional mood swings which might had offended some people.

hope the good memories stay with everyone.

time flies, past few years wouldn’t be possible without this A-team, given the roller-coaster rides, truly appreciate everyone/anyone who has been supporting us, especially those who knew us since nankin row’s days… cross street was a short stint due to covid restrictions… and we hope to see you often at raffles place.
