TISSILAWEN - 31 July
Tissilawen—meaning ”the people of Tassili” in the Amazigh language Tamasheq—hail from Djanet in southeastern Algeria, at the foot of the Tassili n’Ajjer mountain range. Their music is forged from this rugged, ancient terrain: desert blues featuring deep basslines, electrifying guitar solos, and vocals in Tamasheq singing of their homeland, their people, and their shared bond.
The group was formed in 2008 by childhood friends and guitarists Bakrin Timlfati and Cheikh Taberni, with Tinariwen serving as their primary inspiration. Like their predecessors, Tissilawen weave together Tuareg musical traditions with rock, blues, and offbeat rhythms. It is hypnotic campfire music characterized by vocal harmonies, mesmerizing riffs, and laid-back grooves.
Their latest album, *Eyel*, was released in 2015, but they have since continued to expand their sound with singles such as ”Wagh Azaman” (2025), ”Tamiditine” (2025), and ”Amidinine” (2024). Their debut at Fasching this August brings that campfire atmosphere into the club, making the walls vibrate with desert blues riffs.
