Fredagsjazz på Källarbyn!
Varmt välkomna till fredagsjazz på Källarbyn, varje fredag! En konsertserie med fokus på svängig, utmanande jazz på hög nivå. Köket och baren erbjuder ett noggrant utvalt sortiment av lokal öl, goda viner, ekologisk mat och bakverk för en komplett kväll.
Konserten ges i två set med start 20.00. Det är fri entré, men en donation på minimum 70 kr per set är rekommenderat. Donationerna går direkt till musikerna.
“The bassist Anja Gottberg brings together a young, international quartet for her debut album. Tenor saxophonist Coleman Rose and pianist Abe Gold are from the US, while drummer Magnus Austad is Norwegian and a member of the trio Ployart/Lannér/Austad, who will release their debut this autumn.
Stockholm-based Gottberg only started playing at the age of 22, and this album is proof that it’s never too late. (Not that 22 is really an age to start doing anything whatsoever.)
Gottberg’s debut album shows that she has found her own musical voice, both as a composer and as an artist. It is expressive jazz, with echoes of her old idol Wayne Shorter, but ultimately also of the Swedish folk music Gottberg grew up with.
The album’s title, Teenage Years, clearly reflects her proximity to the source and to the very raw material from which music is born. All the contradictions of adolescence—shyness and awkwardness interspersed with hormonal surges and rebelliousness—feed into the creation of the music. As do the aforementioned musical influences.
Teenage Years presents an expressive and already distinctive musician and composer, with a strongly analogue feel, at least on this album. No turntablism, no f**ked-up electronic elements—this is four people playing in the same room, at the same time. Without lapsing into any kind of nostalgic drivel. This is music that is alive.
The teenage years are done and dusted. On a ten-point grading scale, Anja Gottberg might well make it to twenty next time around.” - Timo Kangas
