Argentine Tango Ensemble Workshop
The objective of this workshop is to assemble a tango arrangement, exploring and
working with the stylistic characteristics of the genre.
The workshop will begin with analysis, presenting technical elements specific to the
genre and conducting a series of exercises to deepen understanding of these elements.
Participants will work on instrumental performance, rehearsal, and ensemble of a tango
arrangement, emphasizing its various interpretive possibilities. An audiovisual recording
of the final musical product will be provided for participants to take home, along with a
digital booklet.
The arrangement to be worked on during the workshop will be specially composed by
Agustín Guerrero for the musical training of the participants.
The booklet will contain information on the technical elements of tango, sample score
excerpts, audio examples that will be played during the workshop, and the full score of
the arrangement to be worked on.
Activity Development:
1) Presentation of the main technical elements of the tango genre: rhythmic
foundations and their variations; articulations and phrasing in rhythmic and
melodic aspects.
2) Exercises in constructing, orchestrating, and performing the different rhythmic
foundations and exploring phrasing and articulation possibilities over a given
melodic phrase.
3) Analysis of the arrangement to be studied, with the aim of understanding how
the previously presented concepts were implemented.
4) Rehearsal and ensemble process of the arrangement, evaluating different
ways of interpreting the written piece.
5) Performance of the complete arrangement, filmed for documentation
purposes.
Time estimate: 4 hours, with a break in the middle.

Silvina Montagnoli (Musician and Teacher) was born in Buenos Aires on March 13, 1988.
She holds a degree in Flute Performance from the J.J. Castro Provincial Conservatory and a degree in Arts
with a specialization in Music Education from the National University of the Arts (UNA). She complements
her training with courses in tango and folk music, percussion workshops, rhythmic sign language at the
CERPS (Center for Regional and Professional Training in Music), singing, choral conducting, and conducting
children's and youth orchestras.
She has performed as a flautist and singer in various folk groups such as "Luz de Bicho" and "El Entrevero,"
among others; and as a flautist and piccolo player in various symphonic ensembles, including the Pilar
Municipal Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, he plays flute in the wind quintet “Chifladas Tango,” a group with two albums released, “Toco
Madera” (2013) and “Desborde” (2020), plus two more releases in 2024 and 2025, “Será Luz” and “Colapso.”
He also plays in the folk group “El Entrevero,” with two albums released and one forthcoming; in the
improvisation group “Drop,” which uses rhythmic sign language; and in the José C. Paz Municipal Symphony
Orchestra. He has worked as a flute teacher in the Las Tunas and Ingeniero Maschwitz school orchestras,
and currently teaches flute and directs the Billinghurst Children's and Youth Wind Orchestra of the
Municipality of San Martín.
Agustín Guerrero Composer, pianist, and arranger born in Lomas de Zamora on June 14,
1988.
Founder and director of the Orquesta Típica Cerda Negra (2004-2008) and the Orquesta Típica Agustín
Guerrero, known as OTAG (2008-2015), with which he received a nomination for the 2013 Lunas del
Auditorio Awards for performances in Mexico during the 40th International Cervantino Festival and another
for the 2016 Gardel Awards for the album XXI. In 2014, he formed the Guerrero/Scalerandi Duo (piano and
guitar) with Juan Martín Scalerandi, and in 2016, he created the Agustín Guerrero Quintet, which he leads
from piano and synthesizers. In 2018, he premiered "Epopeya argentina," an unpublished work by Astor
Piazzolla in homage to Peronism, with his quintet. In 2019, alongside J. M. Scalerandi and Leonel Capitano,
he toured more than 10 European cities, forming the Contemporary Tango Ensemble in Paris that same
year. Also in 2019, he premiered the interdisciplinary conceptual work "Estupidez" with his quintet. In 2023,
he finished writing "Mi suelo," a piano piece composed using his own harmonic system, the "Sistema de los
12 sexacordios" (System of the 12 Sexacords), with the support of a grant from the FNA (National Arts
Fund). He also toured nine European countries, giving 35 concerts in two months, and released "Mi tango a
Messi" with his quintet. In 2024, he performed with the AGQ (Asociación de Tango de Quevedo) at the
Recoleta Cultural Center as part of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival. He then embarked on a two-month
European tour through Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and the Netherlands, presenting his new album
"Noches Largas" with Leonel Capitano. In 2025, he embarked on another tour, performing 36 concerts in
Brazil, Croatia, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland.
