Happy Kwita Izina! πŸ¦πŸ’š

Today, Rwanda celebrates one of its most meaningful traditions: Kwita Izina – the naming ceremony for the country’s newborn mountain gorillas.

It is much more than giving them a name. It is a celebration of conservation, community and the incredible efforts made to protect these gentle giants and their habitat for future generations.

A beautiful reminder that every single gorilla matters – and that responsible tourism can play an important role in their protection.

Some moments need no words. 🀍

A gentle touch. A quiet gaze. The unmistakable feeling of safety between a mountain gorilla mother and her infant.

As both your local tour operator and lodge, we take care of every detailβ€”while ensuring that these remarkable animals are observed with patience, respect and the distance they deserve.

You return from the forest with more than photographs. You return with a deeper connection to nature and a memory that stays with you forever.

Limited time does not have to mean unclear planning.

Our 2-Night Essential Gorilla Trekking Stay in Rwanda is designed for travellers who want a compact journey built carefully around a confirmed trekking date.

A typical rhythm is:

Day 1: Private transfer support from Kigali, arrival, dinner and preparation
Day 2: Early breakfast, official briefing, Gorilla Trekking and recovery at the lodge
Day 3: Breakfast and return to Kigali or onward travel

The shorter stay leaves limited flexibility for Golden Monkey trekking or an additional recovery day. The official Gorilla Trekking Permit is only included when specifically confirmed in your personalised proposal.

How many nights do you need for gorilla trekking in Rwanda?

Two nights can work for a focused journey when time is limited.

Three nights create a more balanced rhythm, with time to arrive properly, experience both Gorilla and Golden Monkey trekking and recover before returning to Kigali.

Four nights provide a slower pace, more lodge time and greater flexibility for wellness or an additional Volcanoes National Park experience.

Our Rwanda gorilla trekking packages are planning frameworks rather than one fixed journey for every guest. Your final proposal depends on your dates, room requirements, confirmed permit availability and preferred pace.

When is the best time for gorilla trekking in Rwanda?

There is no single perfect month for every traveller.

The relatively drier periods, commonly June to September and December to February, often bring firmer trails and are popular with first-time trekkers.

The wetter periods, commonly March to May and October to November, bring greener scenery and can feel quieter, but the trails may be muddier and more physically demanding.

Gorilla trekking may be possible throughout the year. In practice, the best date is the one that brings together suitable permit availability, the right room and the travel rhythm you prefer.

What should you pack for gorilla trekking in Rwanda?

The best trekking kit is practical, protective and easy to move in.

Bring:

βœ“ Waterproof hiking footwear with reliable grip
βœ“ Long, lightweight trousers
βœ“ A breathable long-sleeved top
βœ“ A waterproof jacket
βœ“ Spare socks
βœ“ A small daypack
βœ“ Water, personal medication and camera protection

Rain is possible throughout the year in the highland rainforest, so prepare for changing conditions rather than one fixed forecast.

A porter can carry your daypack and provide a steadying hand on muddy or steeper sections. Gaiters and walking sticks are available through Five Volcanoes for confirmed guests.
