Something we have dreamed about for a very long time is getting closer. ♥️

Grain Apart began years ago in Florida, but its story really began much earlier—in my family, my heritage, the food I grew up with, and the way I learned that feeding people is an expression of love.

So much of who I am has found its way into Grain Apart.

And now, we are preparing to open our first little home in Winston-Salem.

There are so many emotions behind these photographs. Excitement, exhaustion, a little disbelief…and more than anything, gratitude.

Gratitude for every person who has stopped at our market table, placed an order, told a friend, encouraged me, tasted something new, came back the following week, or simply believed in what I was trying to create.

You have helped bring us here.

We still have work ahead of us, but soon I’ll be able to open these doors and welcome you into a space that feels deeply personal to me.

I can’t wait to share what we’ve been creating for you.

The next chapter of Grain Apart is almost here. ♥️

A little glimpse into my kitchen this week. 💚

Matcha labneh, pear compote labneh with toasted walnuts, spicy herby Batata Harra, and our creamy Basque cheesecake.

Some weeks I look around the kitchen and realize how much I love bringing together the flavors I grew up with, the places I’ve traveled, and whatever is inspiring me that week.

This is what Grain Apart is becoming, one dish at a time. 🌿

Made from scratch, made with care, and always meant to be shared.

I’ve been a little quiet here lately.

Not because there hasn’t been anything happening, actually, quite the opposite.

Running a small food business means wearing more hats than I ever imagined. I’m the chef developing the menus and recipes. I’m sourcing and shopping for ingredients, testing, prepping, cooking and baking. I’m costing every dish, setting prices, managing the finances, answering emails, taking orders, planning for markets… and somewhere in between all of that, I’m also supposed to be the photographer, content creator and social media/marketing person. 😅

And I am definitely not an expert at that last part.

Most days right now are 12–14 hour days, and sometimes something simply has to give. These past couple of weeks, that something has been social media.

But there’s another reason I’ve been a little quieter.

Behind the scenes, I’ve also been working incredibly hard on something very important for Grain Apart, something I’ve been dreaming about and working toward for a long time.

I’m not quite ready to share it yet.

But very soon, I will. ❤️

In the meantime, I’m still here. Still cooking. Still creating. Still building Grain Apart one very long day at a time.

And I’m so grateful that you’re here for it.

More soon. 🤍

Three years ago, I said goodbye to my father. Yesterday, July 19, would have been his birthday. And today, July 20, would have been my parents’ 63rd wedding anniversary.

This week, I’m making one of his absolute favorites—my Father’s Lebanese Bulgur Chickpea Salad.

Every bite reminds me of him. Of family meals around the table. Of the traditions he carried with him across countries. Of the recipes that became our family’s language long before I understood their meaning.

Food has an incredible way of keeping the people we love close. Even when they are no longer here, they still gather around our table through the dishes they cherished.

This salad isn’t just part of this week’s menu at Grain Apart.

It’s a tribute.

To my father.
To my parents’ love story.
To the generations before us who taught us that recipes are memories we can pass from one hand to another.

Thank you, Dad, for teaching me that the simplest dishes are often the ones that stay with us forever.

This week, I’ll be sharing your favorite with our community.

❤️ In loving memory.

Sometimes, the most beautiful version of a dream is the one seen through the eyes of someone you love. 💚

This beautiful vision of Grain Apart was created by my son, Liam. He imagined our future home filled with warmth, handcrafted food, fresh bread, Mediterranean flavors, and a welcoming place for our community to gather.

As a mother, seeing my dream through my son’s eyes is something I will treasure forever. And as the founder of Grain Apart, it reminds me of why I started this journey in the first place: to create something meaningful, rooted in family, tradition, hospitality, and love.

Every detail makes me smile, but my favorite will always be the little signature in the corner: “by Liam Isaias.”

One day soon, I hope we’ll stand together in front of the real Grain Apart and say, “Look, Liam. You imagined it.” 💚

When Food Fire + Knives invited me to create a dish inspired by today’s Morocco 🇲🇦 vs. Haiti 🇭🇹 World Cup match, I immediately saw an opportunity to tell a story through food.

As a chef of Lebanese heritage who grew up across different cultures, I’m fascinated by how food travels, adapts, and connects people. This dish brings together Moroccan flavors and Haitian culinary traditions, celebrating two countries whose histories, ingredients, and resilience are reflected in every bite.

Thank you to Food Fire + Knives for including me in this beautiful project. Food has always been one of the most powerful ways to build bridges between cultures, and I’m honored to share this creation.

Fresh cherries. Local peaches. Peak summer.

This is the season that inspires so many of our favorite Grain Apart creations.

What would you choose first: 🍒 cherries or 🍑 peaches. These cherries may not stay cherries for long… 🍒

A few ideas are already taking shape in the Grain Apart kitchen.
