Aproveita a ilha, Lola.

Here we go again… The Esconderijo Frustration Curse strikes back.
“Another one-star review from someone who never actually ate here.”
It seems to be becoming a small tradition around here 😄
Dear Lola, thank you for your review!
I hope you’re feeling better after writing it.
I noticed that today you managed to leave three reviews with essentially the same complaint, for three completely different places: a snack bar, a pizzeria and a restaurant in one hour time, houaa ! What a production !
There is actually something quite amusing about this.
A snack bar, a pizzeria and a restaurant are three different things. Different food, different service, different way of working. Expecting all three to operate in exactly the same way is a little bit like going to a bakery, a sushi restaurant and a steakhouse and wondering why they don't all work like McDonald's.
At O Esconderijo, we are a small restaurant. We cook a particular kind of food, we have a small kitchen, a limited number of tables, and especially during the tourist season. Our regular customers book in advance.
And honestly, for a cook, that's one of the nicest things, feeding the same people more than once.
So during the busy season, we simply cannot feed every person who happens to walk through the door looking for somewhere to eat. That's not because we don't like tourists. It's because we are a small restaurant and there are only so many mouths our kitchen can feed.
Which is also why our regular customers, who know us, book in advance.
When you arrived, we were cleaning the kitchen and there was nobody eating. I think that was probably a fairly strong hint that we weren't accepting walk-ins at that particular moment.
So yes, perhaps we weren't the right place for you that day.
Anyway, thank you for the three reviews. They gave us a laugh and reminded us of something we already know:
We are very lucky to work mostly with people who live on the island. Tourists are welcome, but our restaurant was never designed to feed the entire tourist population of the island.
Enjoy the island, Lola. There are much better things to do here than fighting with closed kitchens.
