Named after a local Vila de Avô poet, Quarto do Brás is the largest room at the inn and is a family room that can accommodate two adults and one child.

Brás Garcia de Mascarenhas (1596-1656) was a Portuguese poet and soldier whose life and work embody the fervor and resilience of the Portuguese Restoration period. Born in Avô, near Coimbra, Mascarenhas lived during a time when Portugal was regaining its independence from Spanish rule, a cause he was deeply involved in as both a poet and a soldier. Known for his patriotic zeal, he fought in several battles, including the Restoration War against Spain, and was even imprisoned for his loyalty to the Portuguese crown. This duality as a poet and a man of action gives Mascarenhas a compelling presence in Portuguese literature.

Sophia de Mello Breyner Andersen (1919–2004) is one of Portugal’s most revered poets, known for her elegant, crystalline language and deep connection to the natural world, justice, and the human spirit. She spent much of her life in Portugal, though her Danish ancestry and well-traveled background gave her a cosmopolitan outlook. During Portugal’s Salazar dictatorship, she was an outspoken critic, and later, after the revolution of 1974, she served as a member of parliament briefly, dedicating herself to the democratic ideals she held dear.
